Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

WOW...I've got to get the print of this book and read it, then listen to it again, then read it again. Absolutely one of the best McCarthy books out there. Brutal doesn't describe adequately the vision he gives you of this period of our country and history.

Richard Poe delivers an excellent performance!! Well worth the credit spent.

It is Nick and Amy Dunne's fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick's clever and beautiful wife disappears from their rented McMansion on the Mississippi River. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn't doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media - as well as Amy's fiercely doting parents - the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he's definitely bitter - but is he really a killer?

Teddy says: "Demented, twisted, sick and I loved it!"

Credits are gold and this is a great one to use them on!!

This was my first book by Gillian Flynn and as a result of becoming completely engrossed by this story, these characters and the exceptional performance of the narrators I went on a binge with her other two books. Do not miss out on this book! Well worth the credit and time. I found myself taking extra time getting to work or back home just trying to get to a point where I could leave it!

BTW, her other two books are just as good. Much darker...much, much darker, but excellent stories and worth the time and credit.

Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

    Beverly says: "Narrator choice inspired"

Would you consider the audio edition of Macbeth: A Novel to be better than the print version?

I haven't read the print, but the narrator is what brought this story home for me. Great choice!!

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way the story was laid out, is timeline and how it tied everything together. The authors set out to show you a different side of the Macbeth story and actually make you want to reach into the story to tell Macbeth to just stop!!! Stop making these terrible decision and be a great King!! When you feel that way, you know the book is good!

An innocent man is about to be executed. Only a guilty man can save him. Travis Boyette is such a man. In 1998, in the small East Texas city of Sloan, he abducted, raped, and strangled a popular high-school cheerleader. He buried her body so that it would never be found, then watched in amazement as police and prosecutors arrested and convicted Donté Drumm, a local football star, and marched him off to death row.

Suzn F says: "I confess, I loved it!"
    "Great story, irritating character voices!"
    Overall

Story was good, keeps you going. Sometimes though it becomes simply unbelievable that there are that many stupid people in the judicial system in Texas! So with that, Mr. Grisham's political views definitely come through in the book.

Scott Sowers is best with the narration portion, however, most of the characters voices he attempts to create are simply irritating to listen too! Overall, worth the credit.

They were just kids when they stumbled upon the horror of their hometown. Now, as adults, none of them can withstand the force that has drawn them all back to Derry, Maine, to face the nightmare without end, and the evil without a name.

Couldn't wait for this book to come out on Audible as it has been so long since I read it. Absolutely worth the credits and time. Steven Weber does a great job with the narration, putting you right in the story and characters.

First, the unthinkable: a security breach at a secret U.S. government facility unleashes the monstrous product of a chilling military experiment. Then, the unspeakable: a night of chaos and carnage gives way to sunrise on a nation, and ultimately a world, forever altered. All that remains for the stunned survivors is the long fight ahead and a future ruled by fear—of darkness, of death, of a fate far worse.

Nicole says: "You love it or you hate it..."
    "Can I get a 3.9 rating?!"
    Overall

I really liked this book, good storyline and character development. But I was also really glad when I got to the end. It is a long listen so be prepared, and I would not suggest listening to it in THREE DAYS like a previous reviewer. I listened to Kings "IT" right before this one (Another 40+ hours and an extremely great listen) so I'm not sure if I needed to just get to the end and that affected how I felt about the book.

If you enjoy Scott Brick, you'll enjoy the story as well. It will be really interesting to see where the author takes the story as he is commited to two more books on it as well.

Why we think it’s a great listen: How do you one-up a book that’s already a global literary phenomenon? Hire Simon Vance to (flawlessly) interpret the loves, lives, and murders of Sweden’s cold and secret-filled world. A spellbinding amalgam of murder mystery, family saga, love story, and financial intrigue. It's about the disappearance 40 years ago of Harriet Vanger, a young scion of one of the wealthiest families in Sweden.

Pamela Murphy says: "COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN"
    "Great story"
    Overall

I know what the other listeners are saying when they talk about how this book was hard to get into, somewhat slow and takes a little bit to get to the heart of the story. For me it was the authors accent that had me not enjoying the first hour or so, but the story took off and from there I enjoyed the story to the end. Can't wait to get the others. Stick with it and you'll enjoy it.

  • Matterhorn: A Novel of the Vietnam War

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

    Zachary says: "Matterhorn"
    "Awesome book and narration"
    Overall

I refuse to believe this is Mr Marlantes first book, but searches turned up nothing else. Great prose and character development all lead to an awesome story. As a retired Marine, the authenticity of the characters reminded me of Marines I've served with. The narration is as good as any I've heard so far. Well worth the buy.
