There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

I enjoyed this story, it really kept me on the edge of my seat. The story gets a little crazy, but it's well worth a listen.

Agent to the Stars is a fun listen. I didn't love it, but it kept me entertained and was worth a credit. Wheaton does a good job with the characters and is definitely a worthwhile addition.

The first book of Day by Day Armageddon took us deep into the mind of a military officer and survivor as he made a New Year's resolution to start keeping a journal. The man kept his resolution and brought to us the fall of humanity, day by day. We see the man transition from the life that you and I live to the prospect of fighting for his very survival against the overwhelming hordes of the dead. We see him bleed, we see him make mistakes, we witness him evolve.

This falls short of the first story, which was decent. I think that the narrator was incorrectly cast in both books and sounds like a much older man than the character. He does a OK job but sometimes sounds like he trying too hard to make scenes exciting or tense.

When a widowed rancher hires a housekeeper to help with his three young sons, he finds her to be cheerful and competent. Yet she is concealing a colorful and infamous past. Filled with humor and hardship, this novel sings with what the author calls "a poetry of the vernacular". A finalist for the National Book award, Ivan Doig, who has published 11 books, has been hailed as the "West's preeminent literary novelist" by the Denver Post.

I would recommend this audiobook to a friend who likes A Prairie Home Companion or Bill Cosby's early storytelling style -- not that it's a comedy. I enjoyed the story, but didn't love it.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

This just isn't my type of book. I assume this is what you'd call a paperback romance novel.

Would you ever listen to anything by Stephenie Meyer again?

    nope

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Twilight?

They described the guy as shiny.

Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother's death in childbirth and their father's disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics - their passion for the same woman - that will tear them apart.

It definitely falls within my top 10. I like a story that is interesting, layered, realistic and well written. I think the Prince of Tides hits all those marks and it has a great narrator.

In late 2003, in his column in Entertainment Weekly, Stephen King called The Memory of Running "the best novel you won't read this year." This glowing endorsement of the audiobook resulted in Ron McLarty receiving a $2 million two-book deal from Viking Penguin. Also, Warner Brothers has shelled out big bucks for the movie rights to The Memory of Running, for which McLarty will write the script.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Sometimes I need a story to really pull me along and this one didn't quite do it. I don't have anything bad to say, it just wasn't quite compelling enough for me. I might recommend it to someone who enjoys a somewhat slower, but well-crafted tale.

My father had an expression for a thing that turned out bad. He'd say it had gone west. But going west always sounded pretty good to me. After all, westwards is the path of the sun. And through as much history as I know of, people have moved west to settle and find freedom. But our world had gone north, truly gone north, and just how far north I was beginning to learn.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Far North?

There were a number of memorable moments, but I really appreciated the overall environment that Theroux created. Makepeice Hatfield is a scrappy survivor and I enjoyed how the story unfolded.
