I have been a keen Rat reader for over 30 years. In recent times I have switched to audion books a bit more and was delighted to see my old friend Slippery Jim making a comeback in the updated audio format, and not before time. This is the first in the series of Rat books and one of the best, the narrator does a fine job with all the characters and story. Old time Rat fans like me will love it, newbees will have a chance to discover one of the best sci-fi characters ever written. Enjoy.

A fantastic job by the narrator, he really brought the tiresome story to life.

I normally avoid King due to the endless padding in his books, this one was no diffirent.

A plodding story that was really saved by the fantastic job of the narrator. The story is beautifully written, you can't deny King's writing skills. It could have been a great book but suffered the usual endless padding of all King books.

I'm a huge fan of the Alex Benedict series, so was naturally delited to see that there was a new book comming out. The story is excellent, up to McDevitt's usual high standards however one thing did annoy me a great deal. For some reason known ony to the publishers thay have a male narrating a book that is dictated by a female character. The last 3 books in the series was narrated by Jennifer VanDyck, who did a great job, yet for some reason they have a male doing this one???. Anyway it's a great story worthy of all the others in the series.

Pandora's star is no light read (or should I say listen to), be prepared for a long haul that seems to take, at times forever to get where it's going. You may well believe that Mr Hamilton is paid per page as this detailed at at times rambling tale trundles along the tracks. However the author manages to invent a truly engaging and detailed Universe where Humanity despite being able to practially live forever is in true danger of being wiped out by an alien menace.

However understand that this is only the first part of the series, it isn't a stand alone book. So take the ride, settle in, give it a chance and I think you will enjoy this tale a great deal, the narrator does a fine job of bringing all the characters to life and the story, while long winded this is a very enjoyable one.

Asimov wrote many great books, the Foundation series is perhaps one of the finest sci-fi series written to date. His other major works include the robot series of whitch The Caves Of Steel is a very important addition. As far as a detective murder mystery goes it's pretty basic, but the narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the world and characters to life. Definatly worth your time.
