I love this series. This was a great way for the heroine to encounter a whole population just like her. The concept of God as "the tester" is wonderful.
This was very interesting, I didn't figure out how the victims were picked until told. Very enjoyable.
This is the second book I've read from J. Scalzi. I have enjoyed both. Irreverent, funny, and good story telling.
While this one was a bit better than the first i still couldn't really care for the characters. The plot is good and a nice twist at the end. Just.......
Not bad, but nothing outstanding. Took a while to get to a point where I wanted to continue. The Story itself is ok, but the characters are a little unbelievable.
The story is a bit hard to get a handle on for the first quarter of the book. After that it gets a bit smoother. The end is OK but is a bit too convenient.
A bit better than the first one, not much. Her writing has settled down a bit. However, there I still have no emotional attachment to any of the characters, and while there is a mild interest in how the story turns out, it's just mild.
I really tried to finish this book. I very seldom stop a book in the middle, I always think that there must be a reason book was published, but this one just didn't make it. Some of the thoughts do have merit, but they are by no means original, and really shouldn't be told this way.
I read this book 25+ years ago. I burnt out on the series after about six or seven books. However, some other Anne McCaffrey's books are some of my favorite books (Audible only has abridged versions of the others which I will not listen to, sigh). I like her writing style even though this particular story was a bit simplistic, and easy to guess the end, it was enjoyable.
The narrator had a few voices that were mildly irritating. However, the story was fun, and complicated enough that it was worth the read. Not really sci-fi as much as fantasy. I'll continue with the series. I guess I will have to watch the movie now.
Interesting mix of Crime, Spiritualism, Western, Mystery, etc. While this was a decent enough story, I found it just a bit depressing. the justice system doesn't work and even the main character gets depressed.
