Three years ago, an object 100 miles across was spotted on a trajectory for Earth's sun. Now, its journey is almost over. As it approaches, two competing manned vehicles race through almost half a million kilometers of space to reach it first. But when they both arrive on the entity, they learn that it has been sent toward Earth for a reason. An intelligent race is desperately attempting to communicate with our primitive species. And the message is: Help us.

Not a formulaic apocolyptic, big rock heading for the earth book. This is a very interesting read that takes some big topics on without hesitation. It is supposed to be the first book of a trilogy, but after doing some research on the authors, who are primarily screenwriters, the rights to the books have already been sold to movie production houses, so I am not sure that the other two will ever get written as books. Too bad, because I would love to read the entire series.

Bob Howard is a computer-hacker desk jockey, who has more than enough trouble keeping up with the endless paperwork he has to do on a daily basis. He should never be called on to do anything remotely heroic. But for some reason, he is.

but I just barely made it through the first book because the plot structure is disorganized and a bit hard to swallow at times. I feel like the writer can't decide whether to write this as an all out spoof of magical horror stories, or try to just barely keep it serious. I like the narrator a lot and the characters are fun, but it just never makes the jump to really keeping my interest for more than 30 minutes. I am still going to purchase the next book in the series, because it has a ton of promise and it is just so close to being really good that I have to give it another shot.

Only one element in the arsenal of the world can possibly give the Earth a fighting chance at survival - a tiny being that has already saved the world once in the Arizona desert is now called upon to outthink his former masters.

This has to be one of the worst books that I have listened to/read in decades. How does someone this bad get published? The dialogue is so pathetic and the characters are so one-dimensional that at times I wondered if this was written as a parody.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A complete rewrite by another author. The basic concept was interesting, but there was nothing else redeeming about it.

Would you be willing to try another book from Scott Sigler? Why or why not?

No. He had a decent idea which he ruined with a ton of gratuitous gore.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

His female voices were so comically ridiculous, I kept thinking that he patterned them after old Monty Python skits. Who allowed this guy to narrate? I thought that I had heard the worst narrators on Audible, but this guy is beyond belief.

What character would you cut from Infected?

There weren't any characters worth keeping. They were all caricatures and stock personalities.

    Any additional comments?

The story is really just an opportunity for the writer to live out his sick fantasies, misogyny and right-wing nutjobbery.

Two years after his wife's death, oceanographer and former navy SEAL, Atticus Young, attempts to reconcile with his rebellious daughter, Giona, by taking her on the scuba dive of a lifetime-swimming with a pod of peaceful humpback whales in the Gulf of Maine. But the beauty of the sea belies a terror from the deep-a horrific creature as immense as it is ancient. There is no blood, no scream, no fight.

What did you like best about Kronos? What did you like least?

It was an interesting concept, and the storyline was fine, but many of the characters were single-faceted and the plot was predictable. His other books are better reads.

By day, he stalks the sleeping undead, by night, he barricades himself in his home and prays for the dawn.

"Nothing Like the Movie - Better"
    Overall

The book and the movie have virtually no similarities, so don't worry about having seen the movie. The book is a very intense and often depressing internal discussion by the main character regarding the terrible situation in which he finds himself. He is nothing like the character in the movie - he is not a military medical expert. He just happens to be one of the few persons in the world who has natural immunity to whatever is causing the plague, and that is one of the most interesting differences between the movie and the book. Definitely get this book. At the very least, you will finally have an explanation of the title.

The United States is near total collapse. But 87% of the population doesn't care: they're addicted to flashback, a drug that allows its users to re-experience the best moments of their lives. After ex-detective Nick Bottom's wife died in a car accident, he went under the flash to be with her; he's lost his job, his teenage son, and his livelihood as a result. Nick may be a lost soul, but he's still a good cop, so he is hired to investigate the murder of a top governmental advisor's son.

"Couldn't Finish it - Horrible Book!"
    Overall

I have read Dan Simmons Hyperion series and enjoyed it. I was going to listen to it again when I saw this book and purchased it instead. I couldn't finish it. This book is filled with Dan Simmons' political fantasies about how progressive policies in the U.S. caused the destruction of the world of the future. It turns out that Simmons is just another right wing tool who has decided to use the science fiction genre to blather on about his ridiculous right wing talking points. As well, he revels in using a variety of racial epithets that have no context in the world that he has created other than to give him an outlet for his demented belief system. Don't bother with this book.
