  • The Garden of the Gods

    • UNABRIDGED (6 hrs and 16 mins)
    • By Gerald Durrell
    • Narrated By Christopher Timothy

The enchanted island of Corfu was home to Gerald Durrell and his family for five years before the Second World War. For the passionate young zoologist, Corfu was a natural paradise, teeming with strange birds and beasts that he could collect watch and care for. But life was not without its problems - Gerald’s family often objected to his animal-collecting activities, especially when the beasts wound up in the family’s villa or even worse - the fridge.

    "Loved it!"

Can't wait for the final instalment of the Cofru trilogy!!
The book is advertised as being read by Nigel Davenport, but the download gave me a recording of it by Christopher Timothy. He is still a wonderful reader of the story, but it may be a little surprising when you first begin the story if you're expecting to hear Davenport's voice.
Certainly not a problem overall and I highly recommend this series.

  • The Convenient Marriage

    • ABRIDGED (5 hrs and 9 mins)
    • By Georgette Heyer
    • Narrated By Richard Armitage

Horatia Winwood is the youngest and the least attractive of the three Winwood sisters. She also has a stammer. But when the enigmatic and eminently eligible Earl of Rule offers for her oldest sister’s hand – a match that makes financial and social sense, but would break her heart – it is Horatia who takes matters into her own impetuous hands. Can she save her family’s fortune?

Tracey says: "Armitage did what he could"
"Not sure if I'd even call that a plot..."

I decided to give this book a go based entierly on the narrater, my thinking being that with such a good narrator (seriously, who can resist that voice?) the story couldn't be too shabby... bad mistake! The story is shocking, with a ditsy 'heroine' who spends all her time gambling with other men to make her husband jealous and then whining to yet more men to help save her reputation when she is caught in a scandle (no romance scene by the way, wouldn't want to have anything actually interesting for the listeners)! Even Armitage's excelent narration wouldn't be enough to get me to listen to this book again.
    Don't waste your time.

  • The Count of Monte Cristo

    • UNABRIDGED (47 hrs)
    • By Alexandre Dumas
    • Narrated By John Lee

Dashing young Edmond Dantès has everything: a fine reputation, an appointment as captain of a ship, and the heart of a beautiful woman. But his perfect life is shattered when three jealous friends conspire to destroy him. Falsely accused of a political crime, Dantès is locked away for life in the infamous Chateau d'If prison. But it is there that Dantès learns of a vast hidden treasure.

    Ramon says: "A true Time-machine"
"This is the version you want!"

I would like to add my heartfelt recommendation to the growing list for this audiobook.
As a 19yr old who has been listening to audiobooks since she was 5, I can assure anyone thinking of purchasing this book that the quality of John Lee's narration is superb. And is quite in keeping with the quality of the story.
The language and descriptions in this book are delightfully rich and the story itself is a perfect mix of emotion, philosophy and rollicking adventure!
