The Grinch, whose heart is two sizes too small, hates Who-ville's holiday celebrations, and plans to steal all the presents to prevent Christmas from coming. To his amazement, Christmas comes anyway, and the Grinch discovers the true meaning of the holiday.

I too grew up watching this on tv at Christmas and so to hear Walter Matthau narrate it doesn't sound right to me BUT my kids LOVE it. They have listened to it a hundred times I am sure.
Great to put on at bedtime as it is only 12 minutes long.

Shortly after Alan and Lauren welcome their affluent new neighbors, the couple hosts a dinner party. One of their guests, a young widow, elects to spend the night after indulging in too much wine, only to wake the next morning with no memory beyond getting ready for bed. Was she drugged? Raped? Lauren, a deputy district attorney, and detective Sam Purdy are both privy to facts they can’t share with Alan, but Alan soon discovers that he has a most unusual perspective into what truly happened after the dinner party.

    Albert says: "exciting"
    "Better than his last book"
    Overall

I used to be a big fan of Stephen White's Alan Gregory series but have not enjoyed the last few books at all as I found them tedious and boring particularly when they focus on the supporting characters rather than Alan and his family. I agree that this book gets tedious at times too (especially Alan's conversations with Hella and when Sam is describing the Kobe Bryant situation) and does start out slow but the story itself certainly improved about three quarters of the way through to the end. Reading the other reviews I have to agree that reading Stephen White in print is a much better experience than listening to them on audio. I think that Dick Hill is a good narrator once you get used to him but I do not like the voices that he uses in this particular series of books and found that he actually seemed to mess up a couple of times speaking as Sam's voice when it was actually Alan talking. I think that next time I will stick with reading the book in print and skipping the audio. So four stars for this book but 3 stars for the audio presentation.

    "Lots of interesting info"
    Overall

I thought this book contained lots of interesting useful info that I had not come across before especially regarding the hormones leptin and ghrelin and how they can sabotage your attempts to lose weight. Also the effects of estrogen, thyroid, insulin, cortisol, DHEA, testosterone and hGH hormones on weight gain/loss.

Contrary to a prior review Audible DOES provide the reference guide that she refers to for download as I downloaded it at the same time as this audiobook on July 30, 2010. It is right in the audiobook description - look for the link. This accompanying reference guide is 66 pages long (PDF format) and has the topics less than stellar foods, remove toxins from your environment, restore lost nutrients, the master meal plan and recipe, the master meal plan shopping list, and resources. It has a 14 day meal plan and 5 breakfast recipes, 6 lunch recipes, and 5 dinner recipes. The recipes have the accompanying nutritional info. The resource section at the end is a list of websites that have useful information relating to the topics covered in the book.

Jillian brings up many good points and emphasizes eating whole foods NOT processed and organic foods if possible. You need to change the way you think about food as well and view it as fuel for your body to help you make better choices.
    Fast easy listen.

    Overall

I haven't read much Nora Roberts but of the ones I have read this is my favorite. Unlike many of her books it is a standalone and I found it very enjoyable. I wish she had made it into a series so I could read more about the characters.

Definitely not in the category of classic literature but an entertaining romance.

I personally haven't listened to the Horrible Harry audiobooks but have read several to my kids ages 6 & 8.
They love to listen to these at bedtime. Scholastic sells the print books quite cheap and so we have given many of them as gifts. My MIL who teaches grade 2 also recommends them to her students.

My 8 year old brought this book home from the library and we started to read it together. It has a very good storyline in the fantasy genre aimed at the younger reader. In fact my son loved it so much he bought the download out of his allowance so that he could listen to it on his iPod while he followed along in the book.

I wish audible had the second book Riding the Storm.

Tally never wanted to be Special, but some talents cannot be denied. Specials keep the Pretties happy and naive, keep the Uglies wishing to be Pretty and - most importantly - keep the Smokies powerless. But their latest mission is to end the New Smoke forever, and there is still a little part of Tally that is telling her to think for herself, that remembers a time when Tally lived happily among the Smokies. Maybe the Specials aren't really protecting anyone but themselves.

    Andrew says: "A Great Book"
"Least favorite of the three books."
    Overall

This is my least favorite book in the series because I really disliked the characters of Shay and Tally through most of this book. And I did not like the outcome for the character of Zane.

I was glad that it was the last book in the series.

Tally Youngblood never felt like the other Pretties - she almost didn't become one. But Tally isn't the only one who feels like she's missing a part of herself. After uncovering sinister clues about the Pretty surgery, she stumbles upon a possible cure for Pretty-mindedness and a possible escape from the city. But the cure could have deadly consequences.

    Overall

I enjoyed Uglies (book one in this series) but did not find this one as interesting. I too agree that I had trouble with the character of Shay - not because of the narrator but I could not understand her continued behavior with regards to her feelings toward Tally. Based on book one it seemed out of character. I also got really tired of everything being so "bogus".

I found it too started to drag on for me but then at the end there is another cliffhanger and so you are left wanting to read book three Specials.
I was glad though that it was only a trilogy and I stopped there.

Tally Youngblood is quickly approaching her 16th birthday and the mandatory pretty-making surgery that accompanies it. But Tally isn't sure if she wants to be a placidly happy Pretty. When a top secret organization threatens her with remaining Ugly forever, she reluctantly spies on the rebels who have refused the surgery. They think it changes more than just looks and are working on a cure. But they need someone to become Pretty to test it out.

    Overall

This is book one of a trilogy containing Uglies, Pretties and Specials. I downloaded this book based on the recommendation of Kristine Kathryn Rusch (posted here on Audible) who writes the Retrieval Artist series which I love.

I found that parts of this book dragged a bit half to three quarters of the way through but then at the end you are left with the cliffhanger which makes you want to listen to book two.

The premise behind it was unique and interesting and it is definitely a young adult novel. I did not find it as gripping as Twilight, Hunger Games, Graceling or Fire but still enjoyed it.
The only thing that I did not like about this series was the repetition of some of the language -in each book they seem to have one expression that they repeat over and over and it got annoying.
If you do listen to this series though do NOT read the descriptions of the upcoming books on Audible as they will give away huge spoilers!!!
