I was surprised that this 21 hour epoch held my attention but it certainly did. This author did a great job maintaining a believeable flow of the story. Anne Flosnick helped, too, she is an awesome narrator.

I enjoyed the mystery attached to this story. Just when I thought the book was nearing its end, another reason to make it last longer happened with another mystery. It was easy to listen to it.

A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.

This was a very strange story. After listening to the preview, I thought I had a clue about the story content but was I ever wrong. I think the narrator helped me stick with the book until the end. It held my attention for the full 5 hours. If it had lasted any longer, I'm not sure it would have held my interest.

This book was a breath of fresh air for me. The author and the narrator are a new experience, too. It's a different kind of mystery; a nice change from the usual murder story. I enjoyed watching the main character use research to resolve the problem. I'm looking forward to reading the others in the series.
