I am usually satisfied if I get 1 useful idea from a book like this. I listened to this book waiting for a punchline that never came. You know how sometimes when a book is published the author is interviewed on the radio or in print. Often the best parts of the book are contained in that interview. This is one of those cases. If you find a good interview or article about this book you'll get all you need to know. I'll bet you'd get even more from those than from the book itself. Save your money/credits for something else.
Hedges reading his own work is powerful. His descriptions of war's costs to both the individual and society obliterate the pro war propaganda that's so common in today's media. It's easy to see the origins of themes he expands on in Empire of Illusion and Death of the Liberal Class. Definitely a worthwhile read.
