In the summer of 1991, Arkady Renko has returned from exile and is back on the homicide squad in a newly democratic Moscow. When Arkady’s informant, Rudy Rosen, and his underworld bank-on-wheels are consumed in a ball of fire, Arkady finds himself in an investigation that points to the heart of Russia’s decaying infrastructure.

This is the fourth Martin Smith book I have enjoyed in the past month or so. My only complaint is that he has not written enough books and I am already concerned about what will be my reaction when I have exhausted Smith's production. I have never enjoyed any books as much as these. I am very concerned that from now on all authors will be compared to this guy and fall short.

Hailed by The New York Times as "a marvel of storytelling", The Things They Carried’s portrayal of the boots-on-the-ground experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War is a landmark in war writing. Now, three-time Emmy Award winner-Bryan Cranston, star of the hit TV series Breaking Bad, delivers an electrifying performance that walks the book’s hallucinatory line between reality and fiction and highlights the emotional power of the spoken word.

In a sense, this book is a fraud for pretending to be a war story. Author should be writing true romance novels.

Now at last Keith Richards pauses to tell his story in the most anticipated autobiography in decades. And what a story! Listening obsessively to Chuck Berry and Muddy Waters records in a coldwater flat with Mick Jagger and Brian Jones, building a sound and a band out of music they loved. Finding fame and success as a bad-boy band, only to find themselves challenged by authorities everywhere....

Loved everything about this book. I am nearly finished and I am savoring the last few hours. Contrary to what some other reviewers have felt about the narration......I think it is perfect.

Why we think it’s a great listen: An all-time Audible favorite that mixes historic fiction, adventure, and romance with one of the most fascinating literary devices: time travel. Outlander introduces an exhilarating world of heroism and breathtaking thrills as one woman is torn between past and present, passion and love. In 1945, former combat nurse Claire Randall returns from World War II and joins her husband for a second honeymoon. But their blissful reunion is shattered....

Unlike many reviewers, I think I would have loved this book in its abridged version. I like my books lengthy usually but this book has too much room for the unending love/sex scenes. The performance was good. The story is very good. Just way too much romance and sex and a couple of unnecessary profanities.

New York Times best-selling author Margaret George captures history's most enthralling queen-as she confronts rivals to her throne and to her heart. One of today's premier historical novelists, George dazzles here as she tackles her most difficult subject yet: the legendary Elizabeth Tudor, queen of enigma - the Virgin Queen who had many suitors; the victor of the Armada who hated war; the gorgeously attired, jewel-bedecked woman who pinched pennies.

I love historical fiction. Margaret George always presents a novel that has been well researched and this is no exception. I enjoyed every moment and the reader IS Elizabeth.

This mesmerizing first novel tells the epic journey of Lin, an escaped convict who flees maximum security prison in Australia to disappear into the underworld of contemporary Bombay. Accompanied by his guide and faithful friend, Prabaker, Lin searches for love and meaning while running a clinic in one of the city's poorest slums and serving his apprenticeship in the dark arts of the Bombay mafia. The keys to unlock the mysteries that bind Lin are held by two people: his mentor Khader Khan, mafia godfather and criminal-philosopher; and the beautiful, elusive Karla, whose passions are driven by dangerous secrets.

I never wanted this book to end. The story is enthralling and exciting and the characters are all well developed and unique. Humphrey Bower provided a large cast of characters. He must be a fantastic actor! The book is well-written with detail and description that takes you to India. I learned much from this book. My only reservation, and the only reason I did not give the story 5 stars was the author's constant philosphy lessons, not that they weren't good, but just too many of them. Buy it and enjoy!

Celebrated crime master and two-time Edgar Award winner James Lee Burke returns with a gorgeously crafted, brutally resonant chronicle of violence along the Texas-Mexico border. Sheriff Hackberry Holland patrols a small Southwest Texas border town, meting out punishment and delivering justice in his small square of this magnificent but lawless land. When an alcoholic ex-boxer named Danny Boy Lorca begs to be locked up after witnessing a man tortured to death by a group of bandits, Hack and his deputy, Pam Tibbs, slowly extract the Indian man’s gruesome tale.

I usually like Burke novels even though they are violent. This is over the top on that score but the worst part of this novel is ALL of it. The story could not be more contrived than if two 12 year old boys were trying to outdo each other with impossible plot lines. I couldn't finish it and I tried several times.

Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon at a mission hospital in Addis Ababa. Orphaned by their mother's death in childbirth and their father's disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution. Yet it will be love, not politics - their passion for the same woman - that will tear them apart.

At the old family manse in Louisiana, Special Agent Pendergast is putting to rest long-ignored possessions reminiscent of his wife Helen's tragic death, only to make a stunning - and dreadful - discovery. Helen had been mauled by an unusually large and vicious lion while they were big game hunting in Africa. But now, Pendergast learns that her rifle-her only protection from the beast-had been deliberately loaded with blanks. Who could have wanted Helen dead...and why?

I am astounded by the reviews on this ridiculous book. The " fever" is my temperature going up at the thought of throwing away money on this piece of nonsense. I will be sure and stay away from any of the "people who enjoyed this book will also enjoy" books . Lesson learned is that the star ratings for books are definitely not indicative of plot or character development. My guess is that this was thrown together over a couple of beers. Where is my pen? I gave it one star as you cannot give it less.
