When archaeologist Zoe Miller’s cousin is abducted by a vicious Russian kidnapper, she must come to grips with a haunting secret. Unknown to even her closest friends, Zoe is not entirely human. She is a werewolf and a daughter of the "Fangborn", a hidden race of werewolves, vampires, and oracles. Zoe’s attempt to rescue her cousin leads her on a quest for artifacts - including Pandora’s Box, an object of world-ending power.

The narrator was good, but kept distracting me with wrong pronunciation of words....like pronouncing "provenance" as 'provenance', or "shards" as "shirds"....
I also didn't like the 'whininess' of the heroine at times....perhaps it was the narrator's portrayal or perhaps the writer's doing, it is hard to decide...but for someone who supposedly grew up street savvy, has a werewolf side and is supposed to be pretty intelligent, it was a little jarring listening to the whiny, helpless emotionally overcharged character that surfaced often....
The good news is, it is enough of a good read and a feasible plot to make it a worthwhile listen.

She has been dealing with the demonic all her life, so when her brother gets tangled up with a demon named Sparkles, "Luna the Lunatic" rolls in on her motorcycle to save the day. Armed with the ability to harm demons, her scathing sarcasm, and a hefty chip on her shoulder, Luna gathers the most unusual of allies, teaming up with a green-eyed heroin addict and a snarky demon of "some import". After all, outcasts of a feather should stick together...even until the end.

What was most disappointing about Mercedes M. Yardley’s story?

I had the book as a recommendation in my library for several weeks because of other books I had apparently bought. As the recommendation was quite persistent, I thought it must be really good. Unfortunately, it is a really childish and immature book. Even scenes that were supposed to be funny just came across as silly. The whole storyline was just a massive disappointment. I made it as far as chapter 21 before I finally gave up.

What does Eva Kaminsky bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Very good narrator....not her fault the story was just awful.

Do you think Nameless: The Darkness Comes needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

    I hope not!

    Any additional comments?

It isn't the worst book I've read, but it definitely ranks in the top 10% worst books.

Samantha Martin is an imp, bound by an angel who allows her to live among the humans...as long as she follows his rules. It's never easy for an imp to follow the rules, especially now that Sam's brother, Dar, has found himself in hot water. He needs her help to retrieve an artifact from the vampires, or the powerful demon he owes a favor to will enslave and torture him for centuries. It should be a simple courier job, but with demons nothing is simple.

What did you like about this audiobook?

This second book in the series is actually even better than the first. The lead character was funnier than ever, more hedonistic, yet you can't help but like her candor (even as some of her actions / thoughts repulse you!)

How has the book increased your interest in the subject matter?

Can't wait for the next installment

Do you have any additional comments?

The pace of narration was quite slow, but that was resolved by switching to 1.5x speed. However, Her narration is impeccable. She brings the characters to life such a way one wouldn't get from just reading the book. I reckon she's one of the best narrators I've come across yet.

Would you try another book from Kathleen Collins and/or Brittany Pressley?

    Not likely

Would you recommend Realm Walker to your friends? Why or why not?

    No I wouldn't.
The characters tend to come across as whiny and the cadence of the narration doesn't help either.
The storyline itself is not so bad, but nothing I would care to read again. The characters come across as petulant kids, even as one feels the intent is to portray strong, capable characters.

Would you be willing to try another one of Brittany Pressley’s performances?

Extremely unlikely. It's probably a good story but the narrator is pretty awful and thus detracts from enjoyment of he book.

Did Realm Walker inspire you to do anything?

Yes - ensure I'm more diligent about picking new authors / narrator s.

I am so glad I gave the novel a chance. Great take on Norse mythology , with grand characters. It is wonderful to have the Valerie take centre stage, rather than the usual Odin and Thor stories. I like the blend of sci-fi, fantasy and mythology, set within modern parameters.
A few scenes made me smile and one or 2 actually made me laugh.
It isn't as funny as the iron druid series, but it definitely holds its own.
    Can't wait for book 2!

This is the first time I've been disappointed by the Stephanie plum series. It is a case of '"same ol' thing" and one gets the feeling we are being strung along unendingly....It is beginning to get the "wheel of time" feel to it.
I was excited about the plot at first but less than halfway through, it felt as if the same old jokes, gags etc were been trotted out, barely recycled......I think this does it for me with this series, except a miracle happens!
If you get the book, it isn't too bad, but uf you've pre-ordered it for months like I have......don't hold your breath.

Merry Gentry pretends to be human. She moved to Los Angeles and began working as a private investigator at Grey's Detective Agency. But all of this is just a disguise; in fact she is a princess of faerie, her real name is Meredith Nic Essus, and she had to flee the Dark Court of Faerie because of attempts on her life. In order to inherit her rightful crown, Merry needed to conceive an heir, a notoriously difficult task for the slow-reproducing Fey. In the 2009 novel Divine Misdemeanors, Merry had finally achieved that goal - and fans have been kept waiting all this time to find out what happens!

I read the reviews by other listeners and almost didn't get this new installment of Merry Gentry and her band of misfits. The major complaint was of course the narrator. However, it has been many years since I read the last book, so I truly had no hang-ups about a narrator with a different accent.
It is however true that the narrator seemed to have the different accents a bit confused at times (which got a a bit confusing), but she wasn't so bad as to make the experience excruciating.
One of the reviewers seemed irate at the death of one on Merry's men, but for me, I couldn't help feeling a little relieved at the herd being thinned out a bit - trying to remember who's who/what, is starting to cause an enormous mental strain! Even Hamilton's Anita Blake series occasionally thinned out the herd .
I don't think this book is anywhere near the top 3 in the series, but for those who've eagerly awaited the next installment, it's nice.

Nobody really believes in a curse. Until you know the people who disappear. Too much coincidence, you look for reason. Too much death, you grasp for something to blame. Carson pulled Delaney out and he died on the side of the road with her mouth pressed to his. Her air in his body. Troy. She told the cops it was suicide. Didn't matter. The lake released her and grabbed another. But when Decker's father dies in a pool of spilled water on their kitchen floor, all Decker can feel is a slow burning rage. Because he knows that Delaney knew that his dad was going to die.

Decided to try this author and I must say, it was definitely a waste of time. The blurb made it sound really mysterious and interesting, but reads more like an angry teen rant. It isn't completely irredeemable, but I just can't bring myself to finish the book.
Performance was good, but the storyline wasn't much to work with.
Would probably appeal to goth teens with latent anger issues.

Performance was a bit frustrating at first, but soon got used to it.
The blurb already gives you an idea of the content (which I don't think did the book much justice!) But I would add: prepare for an amazingly good journey. Already looking to get the next book (TGIF!)

These days, I rarely buy a new book without reading others' reviews. I had hopes for the book after reading the reviews and I must say, I wasn't disappointed.

The story is simple, yet woven with undercurrents of complexity. The pace is fast, but not a 'race'. The characters are a mix of dark, gritty and normal folks.

The main characters are truly well developed (some comments about Cassie made me think she might come across as a blithering temperamental young adult) and instead, are true to their nature /age /disposition.

I honestly can't wait to get my hands on the sequel and might even go ahead and buy it in paperback format if audible doesn't have it in time!

High praise for both author and narrator, who made the experience quite enjoyable.
