Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plain old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—and a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?"

If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?

    Out. Freaking. Standing.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mark Watney, of course. I loved his sarcasm, optimism and great outlook on a grim situation.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, This is the first. But WON'T be the last.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    Yes.

    Any additional comments?

R.C. Bray brought to life Andy Weir's words in a most effective way. I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend who had listened to it. I was hooked from the first few sentences. Bray's vocal style is amazing and grabs the listener right away with his pacing and timing. Mr. Bray brought the characters to life very well, and captured the wit and sarcasm of the main character (Watney) perfectly. I am now a fan of this narrator and author!

Although the "women and children first" rule might seem like a common practice that has been observed for centuries, it was actually popularized by the 1852 shipwreck of the Royal Navy troopship HMS Birkenhead.

The Tower of London is one of the most historic sites in all of England and still one of the most popular. All around is the modern city of London, one of the world's most prosperous and power financial districts, but the Tower is still a daunting structure that looms across the landscape. Not a single structure but a vast network of medieval and early modern fortifications, it anchors the southeastern end of the old city and controls access to the River Thames and, through it, London's connection to the sea.

The history of Britain has always fascinated me. I've listened to many audiobooks on various subjects but honestly, when narrated by an American, it just lacks that authenticity that one expects. Phillip J. Mather brings not only his amazing vocal skills to this book, but presents a somewhat sensitive historical topic (the gory and infamous Tower of London) the respect it so deserves. Well done Phillip.

The Celts are one of the most well-known groups in Europe and one of the least understood. Depending on which classifications are used, the Celts are also one of the oldest civilizations in Europe. In the centuries before Christ, the Celts were spread out across much of continental Europe, and though they are mostly identified with Gaul, evidence suggests they also spread as far as Portugal.

The Romans were master builders, and much of what they built has stood the test of time. Throughout their vast empire they have left grand structures, from the Forum and Pantheon in Rome to the theatres and hippodromes of North Africa and the triumphal gates in Anatolia and France. Wherever they went, the Romans built imposing structures to show their power and ability, and one of their most impressive constructions was built on the northernmost fringe of the empire.

The Ballad of Tommy Atkins was first published as “Tommy” in Kipling’s timeless Barrack-Room Ballads and Other Verses, in the 1890s. ‘Tommy Atkins’, or simply Tommy was a generic name applied to British soldiers from as early as the 18th century, but came into popular parlance during the First World War when troops were simply referred to as “Tommies”. The ballad exposes the bitterness felt by the British soldier to the public’s treatment of their forces in times of peace, and how that alters in wartime.

Susan Keefe says: "A classic brilliantly read."

Roy Walker is curious. But in a world where knowledge has disappeared, curiosity will get you killed. Generations ago, the Passim Virus wiped out most of humanity. The survivors banded together to form The Territory and, now, decades later, no one questions why knowledge has disappeared. Why should they? They're lucky to be alive. But Roy doesn't feel so lucky. He's haunted by the murder of his father and he's ostracized by everyone in town.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, very much so. In fact, I have. This story is an amazing look at human beings! I'd love to go into greater detail, but this book is so full of good things (and twists!) that more detail would rob listeners!

What was one of the most memorable moments of H2O?

The 'twist' near the middle of the story. (Sorry, you'll have to listen to find out!)

What about Paul Heitsch’s performance did you like?

Paul's performance is spot on. His melodic voice brings the characters and story to perfect life. He makes it all too easy to BELIEVE he is the main character, by giving 'life' to him as well as great depth of emotion.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Pretty much the entire back story of the main character and his feelings for his father.

    Any additional comments?

A must add to any audiobook library.

What made the experience of listening to It's All Bollocks the most enjoyable?

The narrator, Mr. Curmudgeon, is the PERFECT voice for this hilarious collection of rants! In true British fashion, his voice allows you to actually SEE the writers disdain for...well almost everything!

What was one of the most memorable moments of It's All Bollocks?

Kind of difficult to say....since pretty much everything had me laughing. The dentist trip would have to be THE funniest!

Have you listened to any of David T Curmudgeon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    No, this is my first.

If you could sum up The McLaurys in Tombstone, Arizona in three words, what would they be?

    Eye-opening, Enlightening, Engrossing

What was one of the most memorable moments of The McLaurys in Tombstone, Arizona?

To be honest, the entire book. Very much indeed an eye-opening glimpse into a very well know event. Well...what I THOUGHT was well known. This look into the 'other side' of the story proves that every event has two sides, both of which are 'right'.

What about Claton Butcher’s performance did you like?

Claton's voice and pacing is superb, especially for this genre. The way in which Mr. Butcher delivers the story quickly makes it feel as if he was really there - lending an air of validity to it all! I would gladly listen to more books by this narrator.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    The Cowboys of Tombstone
