I was looking forward to this book with giddy anticipation. I even broke down and bought the audio just to get the true JG highland experience. Although the narrator did a decent job, she just couldn't measure up to Rosalyn Landor or Susan Duerden.
The book started off great. In typical JG fashion, we meet an unconventional little Brenna and the giant highlander she will marry. It wasn't until they were married and back at his Keep that things started going downhill for me.
The thing is, Connor left almost immediately and was gone for a good long while. In his absence, she was left with his evil step-mother and lecherous step-brother, with no clue of her authority or value to Connor. The step-mom constantly belittled Brenna and was downright mean. Why didn't Brenna put up more of a fight? She was Mistress there! I know she didn't want to upset Connor, but jeez! One of the things I love about JG are her feisty heroines. I just didn't get that from Brenna and was a little disappointed.
Then there was Connor. I know that he was supposed to be a hard man that would never fall in love, but he just came off as cold to me. He wasn't even nice to her, no wonder she was confused. I really really wanted to like him more. I just never warmed up to him.
Now don't get me wrong, I still liked the book. I just didn't love it as I was expecting to. And even though there were some really funny parts, they were too few for me. I know I'm in the minority here, but what can I say, I thought it was kind of boring and sad.
I love this book!! It has the right amount of romance and drama in it. I love the way the characters all interact with each other. I wish Julie Garwood would write more Historical fiction again.
I've listened to this book several times and I can honestly say it still holds my attention. If I could give it a score of a perfect 10 I would.
If you liked the first installment ( The Bride ) than you will this one too!
NARRATOR: Excellent, yet not my favorite.
Heat Factor: Ouch!
I love books! Hardback, paperback, audiobooks - books in any format! My favorite genre is romance, because I also love a happy ending.
I loved this book, which I own and have read... A lot. Hearing it was awesome though, and I thought the narration was superb. A good narrator really brings the story to life.
predictable, but cute!
Meeting of the two main characters in the woods
Entertaining; will buy the sequel.
A very delightful, entertaining, and different book. And I was impressed with the author who has enough of a vocabulary that she does not have to use foul language and explicit language to tell the story. There were times when I was laughing out loud.
I loved The Bride and couldn't remember reading The Wedding now I remember why. Story line so horrible I forgot I read it. The heroine made stupid look smart and to add insult to injury, the narrator was awful. If you are looking for that feel good story you got with the Bride this is not it. I just kept thinking when is this going to be over.
Heather Wilds is a great performer! She made the story even more enjoyable. I will be looking for more books narrated by her. Julie Garwood is one of my absolute favorite authors I love all her books. She tells great stories that you easily get lost in and they are so hard to put down!
I listen to them on my phone I listen when I am driving.my grandmother first taught me how you can read and discover some history as well and then you go look up what they could find written down, not burned or lost...it made me want to write books like Miss Tisdale..lol just do not know how or where to stop!
thank you for creating the magic for those of us that sometimes want to escape from the real world for a while
thank you sincerely
I enjoyed this audiobook but I wouldn't but didn't find anything particularly special about it. The plot was predictable and the characters were easy to like but not too deep. The narrator was alright, some might even say good... But I found her Scottish accent severely lacking, sounding more Russian than anything else. Over all it satisfied my craving for a lighthearted romance but it didn't leave me wowed.
