Classic Sparks story.. It is a very moving story. Of course I shed a tear or two through my reading of it. It was kind of predictable though. but all in all I really liked it. and I would recommend for others to read. It sort of jumps around a lot also.
I would recommend this book to a friend that enjoys Nicholas Sparks novels, or other novels of the sort. He was a good, solid type of storyline that makes all of his novels bestsellers. This book is no different.
No I haven't but they were excellent narrators and I would happily listen to them anytime. They handled both genders very well and it sounded genuine and not forced.
I would take out Luke, because I picture Scott Eastwood (from the movie), and I think that I could easily handle staring at him during dinner. Although Ira I think would be the most interesting person to talk to, what with the story of his and Ruth's lives and how they acquire what they have in the end (don't want to spoil it)!
It took me a bit to get into Ira and Ruth's storyline. A little longer that I would have preferred, although once it got going, I was interested in hearing more. This is definitely a solid Nicholas Sparks novel, but I didn't feel connected to the characters as much as I have in some of his other books. Heck, I cried reading and watching The Notebook because I cared about the character so much. Not even close to tears of happiness or sadness in this novel.
This book is a wonderful love story of two unrelated couples. They have unrelated lives, each story beautiful in it's own way. The final chapters bring the separate lives together in a wonderful way, surprising the reader. Maybe not so surprising as it is hoped this would be the outcome. At the beginning I wasn't sure of the story line but it developed nicely.

NS books always leave you smiling, I love happy endings and he delivers excellent endings this one alternates two different stories making one wonder how they are related
I love books!
First time author, I'd seen the name of author Nicholas Sparks plenty over recent years but had never listened to any of his books. I had seen two movies adapted from his books, 'Message in a Bottle" and "Dear John' and had enjoyed them both. I figured I would eventually get around to one of his books and when I saw this one on audible that was rated 4.4 on their 5.0 scale on over 3000 ratings, it meant a lot of people had liked it a lot. Maybe they were all big Sparks fans but still it had to be pretty good. The plot seemed interesting although with a name 'The Longest Ride' and a horse on one book cover I figured horses would be integral to the story. And, while there were horses in the story and they played a key role, it was mainly about a young couple just getting going and an older couple that are at the end of their lives. Their lives inteertwine at the end of the book and the story is written leading up to that meeting. . I can now officially say that Sparks is a romance write but not so much a romance novel like so many where there is hot, steamy sex as a central part of the story. Rather they are love stories where there is sex but in a good way, in a loving way. This is a make you feel good story. And, 'The Longest Ride' isn't about a long horse ride like I originally thought. If you haven read/listened to a Sparks novel this would be a good one to start with.
Of course I knew it would be good from the movie previews which I haven't had a chance to see. So listened to it while driving from Colorado to Wisconsin & finished as I arrived, riveted every mile of the trip! You would think that NS can't possibly come up with a story as good as his others, but somehow each new book is as good if not better!
I am a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks books and this one did not disappoint. I loved how the dual stories in this book never connected nor did I see how the book would end until the last chapter. highly recommended!
so I meant to read this but I didn't actually read it. The movie was really good though!!
We listened to it together, and both loved it. Very sweet story.
I loved the young couple, and my husband loved the old couple in their young days.
After listening to this book, I have come to the realization that there are those who really like Nicholas Sparks books and those who don't. I Guess I fall in the latter category.
