Say something about yourself!
I have seen some of the people I follow refer to this book as humorous and having adult situations actually happen in a book...real problems, real people...so I finally tried it. It was funny, very funny, like don't listen to on your iPod because people will look at you like you are deranged when you laugh and cringe, sometimes in the same minute!
So, we pick this story up with Grace who wanted to live the Hollywood dream and hit it big and be a household name.....but that didn't work out, so she slunk back to nowheresville and told stories on occasion of the time she almost was an actress. Her friend Holly invited her back out to try again....33 isn't THAT old and now Holly is a big time agent and might be able to make things happen, so Grace tries again. In the midst of trying she meets THE guy that everyone is talking about, the 24 year old hunk of man candy who gets her and she in turn gets him....this is book 1 detailing how they met, book 2 should be fun to see where this goes.
I wish the narrator had chosen a different approach. Her inflection was off in what the characters said they felt and how she portrayed them and for some reason everyone had a New York accent....even the British guy! Thankfully the narrator didn't try and do British but hearing the words shag and knickers with a New York accent wasn't too pleasant either!
Overall I liked the book. The romance wasn't perfect, the people are flawed, and you just aren't sure if there will be a happy ending for these folks. So, I recommend this book go into your wish list and when it goes on sale you will be notified by audible.
Say something about yourself!
Yes, Clayton's writing style is playful and I like it doesn't fill up the whole story with sex scenes like many other stories in this genre.
If you like the Redhead series, you will love wallbanger!
Basically this book is about a 30-something wannabe actress who lives with her friend. She meets a young sexy 'British' actor and the two of them go on a jaunty sexual escapade which involves no ACTUAL sex for a long time.
The narrator uses the same voice for all of the characters, doesn't even ATTEMPT a British accent for the character who is shoved down our throats as being sexy simply for the fact that he IS BRITISH.
I enjoyed it enough at first to get into it, decided to finish it, and then WHAM it was over. I actually checked my library for the next part, as I was extremely confused about how it could end so abruptly. There was no wrap up, no finish, no nothing. Just cut off. Very bizarre.
I see now that there is a 2nd book coming, which I assume will wrap this up.
Basically, I wouldn't waste a credit on this. It's uncomfortable, horrible narration, and a poorly unsatisfying ending.
Stick with Wallbanger. It's a great read.
The character, story and emotional development is outstanding.
The consummation of their relationship.
Her range of voices makes you believe there are many actors involved.
Absolutely and through the night.
One of the best hot romance books...
Totally funny and lovable story!!!
This is a really good question and its hard to determine since the whole book is totally funny and hot!!!
No; I really enjoyed this narrator: she did Grace's role really well!!!!
fantastic narration, fun story and great writing, not formulaic, romantic not too bawdy steam but I do wish Jack's narration to have more of an English accent
I listened to Alice Clayton's "Nuts" a few weeks ago. Jack and Gracie made a cameo appearance in the novel and were such a great couple, I wanted to listen to their story as well. This first installment in their 3-volume story is sweet, sassy, and sexy.
Sadly, the sweet effect of the story was overshadowed by the wrong narrator. Why would a voice actress be hired for a story where one of the main characters is British and she can't do a British accent? I kept forgetting Jack was British because she read him in her oddly accented speech (not from any Midwest area I know of). Her voice reminded me of Paula Poundstone. Now I love Ms Poundstone but she's definitely not right for this book. The narrator spoke too quickly and gave us the feel of a stand-up comedian. It was continually disturbing.
I want to follow Jack & Grace's story and will probably purchase the other volumes, but I know I'll never enjoy it as much as I would if the narrator had been cast differently.
I busy myself living life, chasing smiles, and enjoying adventures!
I love the characters in this story and was seriously disappointed to let them go. I have listened to this series 3 times and am now working through my 4th! The narration was so quick in the first chapter that the pace made me nervous. I kept wondering if she was going to breath. But midway through the 1st chapter the pace slowed and she really brought Grace to life. I love Grace and Jack and their witty banter makes me crack up every time! Definitely worth the credit!
This will be the last book I read from this author. Wallbanger was her only good book. All of the characters were silly and immature. They all acted like they were 15 years old. The H gave the h oral sex for 20 chapters. I find it hard to believe that a young man would find that satisfying every time they have sex. It wasn't even interesting oral sex because the author kept saying the same thing. The narration was horrible. I could not tell who was who because her voice never changed. She did nothing for Jake's British accent. Why they pick someone to narrate the story who could not do a British accent. I would not recommend this book.
Absolutely loved it! Alice Clayton really knows how to make her characters come to life(no pun intended). So realistic! Love is humorous, confusing, romantic, and all the above. Alice Clayton does an excellent job at telling a true love story.
