I thought I would based upon reading the book first, but after listening to the narration by Adam Paul I doubt I will ever listen to this again! I kept thinking he was trying to channel Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry voice and it was grating on my nerves the more I listened so I found it hard to enjoy the story itself!
Maren, because she adapts to situations quickly while retaining her own sense of integrity.
As I stated in the earlier question...his voice for Steele was so irritating that it ruined for me a book that I was really looking forward to on audio!
In the hospital after the crash....when they finally get to see their child.
Please go back to original narrator used for this series....it is really amazing how much a narrator can change the enjoyment of a book just be trying to be the wrong voice for a character!!! I love Maya's books as a whole....and enjoy listening to them as well as reading them! I've listened to some of them multiple times....but this won't be one that I will be doing that with unfortunately!
That said, there is some offensive language, and a bit of over working the sentimental jargon. I some times wonder if authors are paid by the word. Anyway, thankfully she has several other characters that she has to work with in the Kelly Group.
I really liked this book but it was not my favorite of the series. I did not like how things evolved with Maren. It seemed rushed and Steele just changed his personality too fast. Iceman to caring talking man. I just wish Ms Banks had made the change take a more natural course. As always I love Adam Paul who does a great job.
Will do anything for books!
This is a great couple, a great story, huge suspense, huge love story, so much drama!
Avid reader and listener!! Love books! I am usually reading one genre of books and listening to another genre. Best of both!
Just when I think this series can't keep up the momentum and get better, it does!!
Wonderful story of Steele and Maren in the fast paced, plot turning KGI series Maya Banks is known for. Steele must finally face his past and why he is the "man of steel". The characters are brought to life in this book and I just had to keep listening 5 more minutes. And, did I forget to say HOT! HOT! HOT! Well, can't leave that out or would not be a MB novel!
It is it's own story, they are all good and individualized with Maya's creative imagination and story telling!
The narration was the down part of the book. While I am adjusting to a new narrator in the series and finally getting used to Adam Paul's voice, he did a "gravely" persona of Steele, which I felt made Steele sound like an old man instead of "tough".
I have enjoyed this entire series and wish I weren't caught up on the last one. Maya Banks is fast becoming my favorite author of all times. And Adam Paul...what can I say! Never disappointed in his talent. I especially love the KGI novels. Never a dull moment and the narrator brings such life to each character.
Once again...it gets an absolute *~*FIVE*!~* from me!!!
Make no mistake between my personality and my attitude. My personality is who I am, my attitude depends on who you are.........
Boy this is one family/group that I can't get enough of!! Books are too far apart
Narrator is fabulous and I love the bantering between the team..............
At first I was bummed with the change of narrator in this series but I love the gruff voice Paul uses for Steele. Banks does a great job of introducing characters she explores in future books. We got to know Steele a bit in the PJ/Cole saga of Shades of Gray Book 6 and Dr. Maren popped up in previous books as well as the KGI physician.
Steele is nicknamed "ice man" so no wonder the surprise of his love interest in Dr. Maren. If you've enjoyed the other books in the KGI series, you will definitely enjoy this one. Maren is tough in her own right. Steele falls for her hard and fast and the adventure takes off right away. It's also nice to hear about happenings of other characters from previous books. Worth the credit if you're into sexy mercenary men, action and love.
