passionate reader and vegan
Every time I think that this is 'just another Kresley Cole book' she writes another brilliant work. And, yes, as you read Ms Cole, you do get the rhythm of her plot lines and know, in a sense, what the basic story will be. The true genius of Ms. Cole is--so what...the basic predictability just serves as a platform for her to pull you in with new characters, new twists to that basic plot (as MacRieve superbly does) and more revelations about the characters we have come to know and love, such as Regin the Radiant, Lothaire, and my personal favorite Nucking Futs Nix. In addition, we have all the creatures of the Lore and there must be hundreds, each with a description that is so clear, they become alive to the reader. And finally, the humor is electric and hilarious. Ms Cole can deliver some of the most fabulous one-liners EVER as well as some very humorous interactions between characters. The sensuality is always steamy and delicious.
When you add all that to such magnificent narration at the hands/voice of the talented and mufti-accented Mr. Robert Petkoff, you have an enjoyable, delightful, fun and funny time listening to these books.
In MacRieve, the plot/story twist is almost unbearable as Chloe and MacReive struggle with the destiny that they share...destinies as different as they are. I cannot recommend this audio with enough stars. If you love the paranormal, if you love a fabulous love story, if you love some laugh-out-loud dialogue and characters...don't miss this one.
The book, like it predecessors is a fast-paced, action packed, with hot and steamy love'n fantasy style. However, for me this book was lacking, or, more like it was too much. Kresley Cole's writing is very entertaining and also very formulaic. She is queen of: hero screws up relationship to near point-of-no-return, but in the end overcomes past traumas to win over the fated mate. Which is good, we love the HEA. But there can be only so much trauma and misery, else you just grow to dislike the main characters or stop connecting with them. That is what happened for me with this book. I understand Cole's need to switch things up, hence the relationship starts off too well and collapses shortly after. It was so much of a roller coaster, I started to lose patience with the characters. Also, I do enjoy the lingo and jargon associated with the character's personality, ie. the hipster or surfer, and yet this book was way to much on the sports analogies. I liked it, but I feel Shadow's Claim has been better than Lothaire and Macrieve.
Robert Petkoff rocks this series.
No, usually I do. But this book I had to break it up.
Funny, heartbreaking, exciting
Too many to mention. Kresley Cole did an amazing job from start to finish, and the characters were the most believable and lovable in the whole series in my opinion. Chloe's fierceness had me in stitches many times particularly in face of Macrieve's "brutality" - perfect match! Chloe sending the soccer balls flying into his head and his... - so hilarious!
I often cringe at Robert Petkoff's female voices, but he was excellent this time as Chloe!
Macrieve's story is a heartbreaking one and when he finally opened up to Chloe... I was very moved.
Kresley Cole delivers again! I had this book on my pre-order list for a while, and I was not disappointed. I was completely hooked on the characters and the book, and I could not stop listening!
Ullieam (or Will), the hero, is a super hot Lykae warrior who has a tragic and heartbreaking history full of pain (emotionally and physically). You really feel for him and his family. Will has a super hot identical twin brother - I can't wait to hear his story! Despite Will's horrible past, he is still strong, hot, caring, charming - delicious!
Chole, the heronie, is a really cool, kick-ass, strong little soccer player who is half Succubus, but does not know of her immortal blood. She discovers that her father is one of the most evil men in the Lore. Will hates her father, and he planned to use Chole to get revenge, but Will discovers that Chole is his mate. There relationship seemed doomed, but they really developed a bond and worked to get over their past.
The sex in this book is steaming hot, so be prepared!
Robert Petkoff, the narrator, is awesome!!!!! He really brings the characters to life and his accents are amazing!
This is one of the best books I've listened to in while!
I am in love with pararomance and am always trying to find new series with a great story and sizzling hot spots!
I would just because Robert Petkoff is absolutely amazing!
Chloe was great. i loved her spirit and no bullshit attitude!
EVERYTHING as always.
It sure was,and about to start listening to it again today.
Always amazing, sucks me in. I love Kresley Cole and am never ever disappointed!
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
Additive - suspense and hotness wrapped perfectly in a yummy package with this story. I love how Kresley Cole portrays her main lead men. Uilleam MacRieve is a tormented hot devil that will appeal to all who love her books. This is my favourite from this series so far and just had to listened to it immediately once released. Most enjoyable and very satisfying. :)
But if you have read a few well - then you are in my boat and WOW is it ever formulaic. Change names, slightly different plot - personalities identical to those in other stories... Immortal hunk with super power meets vulnerable, but often tough, and usually immortal or soon to be immortal girl... There is the inevitable misunderstanding, miscommunication, mistreatment of each other and a big falling out. One or both will have been tortured, of course.. then her life is in peril ( or his, but usually hers) and they come together, right all their wrongs and are in love forever and ever in a love to rival no other love - except all the other loves in these endless formula stories.
I know no one wants to hear this and reviews are supposed to gush or not be posted... and it is an escape, I suppose, if you don't mind the repetitive formula and then it is probably a lot of fun.... Kresley Cole is not a bad writer and this is better than a lot of what is out there... But she has a lot more potential, and these are becoming SO predictable and the exact same thing over and over.
Her young adult series was an exploration, and surprisingly the work she did on a series meant for teens shows that she has the ability to really develop characters, relationships, plots that are not just an edless re-hash...If she did not have such potential, I would probably be more patient with this... But am just tired of it... after the first 2 I read, they are all the same...
That said, again, she is a goo writer, compared to a lot of what is out there, though sometimes it is a little cringeworthy and if I never hear the term "hot seed" again, that is ok by me.... But the narrator is beyond superb - making it worth it, though it really is the same old from the author.
I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
Kresley Cole does it again and Robert Petkoff is so fabulous. If your a fan then you know what I mean. If not, then start from book 1 and enjoy the ride. I will say this book is more about the hot sexy romance instead of the fights against the bad guys. It's good to have a romance break and this book is so worth the credit.
The best thing about this book is the ending. The rest of it was boring, repetitively so. The main characters kept going over the same ground over and over again, both in their thoughts and in their dialogue. Another problem is that for the most part, we only had the two main characters. That worked in A Hunger Like No Other, but they were on the move, so the story went somewhere. In Macrieve, the characters were always just in one place, both literally and figuratively. The Lore is a rich and diverse world, filled with extraordinary beings and more of them should have been in this book, because the main characters just weren't enough to hold my interest.
Yes. I don't like all of her books, but I more like them than not.
It wasn't annoying, but I don't like his female voices at all.
Press fast forward.
The set up for the next book seems good. I hope it is.
Haha...there is a scene where Chloe has been intimate with Macrieve for the first time and he says she has blown his mind as well as his d***. I literally busted out laughing!
Petkoff cant be beat. He is literally the best with male voices and accents. I am obsessed. He is amazing! I can't get enough of his narrations.
I did have extreme reactions to this book. I laughed and cried. I loved Chloe's character and I hated when Macrieve was mean to her.
This is right up there with Lothaire, for me. I love love love a Scottish accent! I bought this book in print and enjoyed it very much. However, the audio really brought the story to life. I want to know these people.
