I really enjoyed this installment, I like how it ties into the first and second, and has some really good meat to it. That said, I do wonder if Mr. Clines goes a bit too far with the villan, it may be hard to top it later.
I really like that this has three narrators. FYI: If you are planning to listen to Ex-Purgatory, it does not have three narrators, it only has Jay Snyder. To be fair, Jay is really good, but it does lose a little something without this whole cast.

The heroes are back fighting a new threat to The Mount this time. Part supernatural, part zombie, part superhero book “Ex-Communication” delivers on all three fronts. I’ll be honest, if you’re looking for a literary classic keep looking but if you’re looking for a story full of action and adventure and some witty banter this is a good choice.
The narration is great the production and multiple voices really help bring the story to life.
Yes, but calling them "characters" is being charitable
No. I got through the first couple of hours with great difficulty, then gave up. I'm trying to figure out how to permanently remove the book from my library now so I never have to see the title again.
A fruit salad of zombies, valley girls and nondiscript creatures with superpowers who otherwise are "just people too" set in L.A. at a time constantly referred to as "after the end of the world" - even though the world has obviously not ended. Probably the worst scene I was able to struggle through was one in which a dinner party involving a combination of humans and super humans are eating a lovely Italian dinner and dishing about a newly revealed relationship between two characters. Dicing fresh tomatoes - really? After the end of the world? As one character would say: OMG!
Have a renewed interest in books after falling in love with audio books. I am listening to all different genres and exploring different authors.
I have been conservative with my five star ratings this year -- so this is a high 4 rating.
I have really enjoyed the Ex- series by Peter Clines. My favorite part of this book was the introduction of Madeline and her point of view.
Fun, enjoyable, would recommend this book. I immediately moved to the next and final(?) book in the series as soon as I finished.
I recommend Peter Clines books to everyone that I think would enjoy them. There is a great overall story that I think people will like if they are into the genre, but there are also subtle things that readers of classic horror and comic books will pick up on that not every reader may get.
I think Max is my favorite character of this novel. You don't get to see that much of him in the previous books, and his character literally comes to life in this book. Every great hero, or heroes, needs a truly evil and diabolical villain to test there metal against.
Of course the climactic battle is great, but when George leaves the compound to face , who knows what, the interaction between himself and Stealth is classic Super Hero self-denial. It shows how even though these were once normal people, they no longer are.
Even though it's not a big dramatic event, when it is revealed what Corpse Girl's real situation is. It kind of broke my heart. No matter what you believe in we are alive and aware of our own mortality.
I'm writing this after re-listening to the book in order to prepare for the next. I am so glad I started the series when it first came out. I will anxiously await each new book until Mr. Clines decides it's all over. And then listen to them all again.
First, I'll say that like the other two books in the series, Ex-Communication is well acted and a lot of fun. I do recommend it for anyone who enjoyed the first two books and highly recommend the first two books for anyone who hasn't read them. This is a good book and was worth a listen.
Having said that, this is my leas favorite in the series so far for a couple different but related reasons. I wont go into specifics as they would require some spoilers so my explanation is going to be a bit vague. First, Clines made an attempt to develop some of the series characters a bit but his efforts fell a bit flat for me. Rather than making the character(s) in question more interesting, they lost some of what made them so compelling to begin with. Legion, for those who are familiar with the series, makes another appearance but he also takes a step backwards as far as development and takes actions that make absolutely no sense and completely go against his own motivations as we have known them over 2 previous books. These issues left me a bit dissatisfied and confused once it was all said and done.
On the flip side, one character who was a bit of a side note earlier in the series gets some series and well spent development time. A new character is also introduced who gets a lot of good and well spent development time as well.
So, in summary, Ex-Communication is a good read/listen just like the others in the series but does leave me a bit concerned about the direction of the series.
Much better than the first Ex-Heroes book - this one expanded on what was missing in the first: in-depth characterization, with less descriptive action scenes. Lots of fun!
I truly enjoy both the writing of Peter Clines and the reading of Jay Snyder and Khristine Hvam and Mark Boyette. I hope this series continues. I appreciate the character development and I love the concept of superheroes!!!!!
I really like the Ex's series for pure thoughtless entertainment value -- superheroes AND zombies, it's a geek dream! -- and the third book proved to be my favorite so far.
However, the audiobook was obviously a rush job as the editing was no where near as good as the previous two. Numorous time during the listen, the wrong character would speak, and at least twice lines were duplicated. The flaws distracted from a cool story enough to be a little irritating.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
It is way up there...great great great!! I hope there is another one!!!!!!!
No comparison...stand alone awesomeness!!!!!!
ALL!!!!! It was flawless and so so so enjoyable!!!
This whole series would be an excellent movie, or tv series.....
I just hope re is another book in this series....I loved all of it...Peter Clines is awesome! If you liked books 1 and 2 you will love this one!!!!
