I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.
Not a listen thats going to bring your spirits up but it's based on the reality that some people have to face. I think it's well written. A good testament to the amazing strength of the human spirit and the will to survive. In my opinion it's worth a credit, It doesn't contain much sexual content, most by implication, instead of being graphic.
The other five (aged over 60) women in our book club liked the book, but I determined this type of novel (YA) is not for me. I found the teen angst and sexual awakening uninteresting and the snarky exchanges between teen characters annoying. I guessed a good portion of the story in advance and, because the narrator was lackluster and the quality of the production poor, I turned the speed to 2x just to get done with the book.
This book is emotional but well worth the read! Stop reading all the reviews and start reading the book :)
I LOVED the story! I LOVED the performance! The edit on the recording could have been a bit better. Some ends of sentences get cut off abruptly so you miss the end of a word. This mostly happens with Holder's dialog. It's not that big a deal really, just annoying. Other than that I have no complaints.
Great story line...
I have not heard her before... But I liked her performance.
When she reunited with her mom.
Brings a different dynamic to the characters than I would.
Would want to spoil the book for others if I told!
I've only heard the audible version but it was so unbelievably good I could not have imagined reading it being any better!
It is obvious that the author intended for the readers to fall in love with each character. I do not have a favorite because I was truly invested in each of them!
I was blown away with this story. It was a very genuine story and I found myself engrossed with these characters. The author and narrator do a great job in bring the emotional journey to life. Extremely impressed and will listen to this story multiple times! Is one of my favorites and if you give it a chance you will fall in love with HOPELESS!
How strong the characters were, and it didn't seem to unbelievable. This happens everyday. So heartbreaking.
It was an edge of your seat kind of book. It was hard to stop listening.
No, but that would be my only complaint about the book. She wasn't horrible, but they could have chosen someone a little better for this good of a book.
"I live you"
This was a very emotional book. Make sure you have a box of tissues!
I got halfway through and couldn't continue. Too simplistic and juvenile. It might be good for high school kids.
Wow!! Colleen Hoover has done it again. She has managed to write the most perfect book boyfriend ever, besides Will in Slammed. :)
So, this book starts with a prologue that left me about 99.9% confused. I could tell something was going to happen, something big–profound. Half way through the book, I thought I had it all figured out and, BAM!, I was only half right. I had no idea, didn't see it coming, what was going to happen. What the big secret was until it was revealed and it shocked me. But it was a twist and it was a great and well thought out one.
Hoover is excellent with character development. Even in her Slammed series, I found that I felt like I knew ever single character. In this book, Holder and Sky were just amazing. Sky's friends were incredible and they weren't even in the story that much, but even without their physical presence we knew about them, heard from them, and related with them.
The name of the story is just super clever and has so much more to do with the story than just being Hopeless. These two main characters were dealt a shitty ass life, hand, and were strong and they survived. They'd never be "right" again, because what they endured was just too much, but would survive together.
Holder, his name means something as well, at least to me, he held on her to Sky all his life. He's a holder/Holder. He loved her and wanted her and ached for her, for the life she led, for the pain she felt, for the suffering, and for ending up with a decent, good life. He was a misunderstood gentleman, young but so in tune with his feelings. He felt, felt hard and strong, and wore them on his sleeve.
And Sky was so likable and relatable and kind and she grew so much in this story.
I laughed and cried with these two. It was a beautiful, heartbreaking story.
