The poem at the start. It is extremely pretty and I had not heard it before.
From midway through, yes
Builds up well to a satisfying ending.
If you are looking for an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride, this isn't it. If you are looking for a perfectly constructed murder mystery with fantastic characters and great narration, download this today. I was amazed at how involved I got with the story and the very believable characters. I certainly hope we see more of them in the future. The plot is perfectly paced too.
I would never read another adult book by "Robert Galbraith"/JK Rowling. I read all of the reviews saying it was a good book so I thought I would give it a try. I listen to audiobooks all the time and found this to be one of the most boring books I have ever listened to. I listened the the complete book hoping the story line would get better, no such luck. The story and outcome were just to predictable.
I can't believe that this book was ever on the NY Times bestseller list, specially for as long as it was. I think if it had not been released who the real author was, this book would have just slipped into oblivion like many "first" time authors who should just stick to their day jobs.
Sorry I wasted a credit.
Only shows you that the author should stick to writing kids fantasy books.
I was intrigued about the author when I decied to take a chance on this book. I was worried about the celebrity aspect of the book but it was woven into the plot and character development in such a way that it worked. Cormoron and Robin were a great team with great dialogue, wit and British charm. The narrator was wonderful and I will look for other books read by him. The ending was set up for a sequel or series - I will be on the watch for more Cormoron/Robin PI mysteries from Galbraith/Rowlings.
If you love believable detective stories then buy this book. If you love intelligent detective stories then buy this book. If you love gripping, addictive detective stories then buy this book. I just hope that author Robert Galbraith follows this one up with a sequel. Hey, Robert, did you hear me?
Vanity Fair Murders
Yes, the plot moved at a good pace that kept me interested in listening and wanting to know more.
Nice, smooth voice - and a real feel that the timber of his voice fits the actual physical description of the main character - deep, masculine, etc.
I would say that they are equally as good. Robert Glenister did a fantastic job with the narration.
I loved the scene when they are in the shop trying on the green dress trying to gather information.
Very easy to tell the characters apart. Great pacing of the narration.
I did not have any extreme reaction, I just had to keep listening. It was written in a way that the detective work seemed very natural and as the story unfolded you became increasingly interested in knowing who did it. When everything is revealed at the end it is all very plausible and makes total sense.
As everyone knows this was really written by J.K. Rowling. I don't think I would have figured it out. It is definitely worth your time. I hope we see at least a few more Cormoran Strike novels.
The plot was excellent once you got into it.
Not at the beginning; it picked up after an hour, or so. I couldn't figure out who did it until the very end.
I found the beginning of this book very slow and almost stopped listening to it. I found it a bit boring with a slow plot and unsympathetic characters until I was 1-2 hours into it. As the plot got more detailed I also found the characters more interesting. I have to confess that I often find this with mysteries by British authors. By the end I was enjoying the book and looking forward to listening to it. I did not have a strong idea of what happened until the very end. I recommend this book and encourage listeners to just push on through the beginning.
A little more than half way through this my husband said he had it figured out. He was WAY off. This story is well read and has a nice story line. Good set up for future books. The only thing that kept me from giving it the highest marks is that it was really one long series of interviews. That in itself is not that interesting.
Great Characters !
All of them Great Job
When they solved the crime!
Enjoyed this book and all it's characters!!
