I enjoyed the story. As with most of Rollins' books, I liked the way that he tied things together. This one was certainly a stretch but I'm willing to suspend belief for a while when I'm reading.
As for what I liked least.....dear God....the narration.
Absolutely not. I already got the next Rollins/Baskous book and I've decided to return it. Baskous may be a good fit for some books (those that have only one character) but he can't come close to pulling off these books. His accents are horrible. Most of the time he made Rachel sound more Asian than Seichan and the fact that he couldn't correctly pronounce Vigor nearly drove me to start smoking.
I can only assume that Christian Baskous is blackmailing James Rollins because there really is no other plausible explanation as to why he would continue to sign off on letting this man narrate his books. Save the credit.
I love the series, they are really interesting and fun to listen to. But this narrator is the worst in this series so far. His accents aren't very good and they change from book to another. Maybe I'm just being a bit critical, but it's annoying..
I have been reading the Sigma Force novels in sequence. The reading by Christian Baskous is so difficult to listen to that my enthusiasm for the next story is severely dampened.
The plot continued the series's mix of science and historic intrigues though with a little less of the frenetic pace of some of the other books.
His accents were laughable. The Italians sounded like they were Asian Transylvanians. His decisions about pacing and word emphasis intruded on the underlying writing rather than complementing it. Good readers disappear and let the characters and the writing come to the fore. In this case, the reader stayed front and center and hindered access to the story.
Story was great! Such a mixture of science and history and archaeology and suspense
Peter J Fernandez has been a fabulous narrator. Bring him back!
Driving long miles across Wyoming can be soooo boring , but ever since I founds Audible my wife and I love to travel !
The story is well worth listening to this book . But I really wish that Peter J Fernandez had read the book. Nothing ruins a series like changing the narrator in the middle of the series . Took some getting used to , but after listening to first few chapters I was hooked by the story and the narrator didn't seem so bad .
