None stood out.
He has very little ability to give each character her/his own voice. All accents sound essentially the same, so it's hard to keep track of who is talking. His narrator voice sounds disbelieving at inopportune moments. I don't understand how a publisher of audio books could possibly think he can pass muster!
No. I don't like most movies.
Not sure who would enjoy it. The story line was almost nonsensical.
Seemed disjointed and the characters that were new to me, such as Duncan and Jada, were inadequately developed.
The narration was a great distraction to the overall story. The narrator's voices for the women were comical, the various accents, i.e. Italian and Chinese, were laughable. I found the narration hard to overcome in order to find the listening experience enjoyable. I tried increasing the speed of the narration but that didn't take care of the issue, though it did accomplish getting me to the end of the story sooner.
Have enjoyed all of the Sigma Force books to date. Have to admit that getting through this book was tough. The narrator has no idea how to bring to life the characters I am so used to in the books. At times I had no idea which character was supposed to be speaking. Am really discouraged to see that this narrator was again used for book 10.I won't be wasting my money for an audio version of book 10 but will instead buy the book. If by chance the audio book were rerecorded using Scott Brick or one of the earlier narrators I will purchase it. A real shame actually.
I want my money back! As a fan of the Sigma series I am extremely disappointed that I can't even listen to this book. The narration is so terrible that I can't concentrate on what I am sure is a good book. The only thing Audible should be doing with this book is pulling it from their catalogue. It is robbery to charge money for the rubbish reading of Christian Baskous.
Yes, I would love to listen to this book by a decent narrator.
His voice, accents, inflections, Everything. He is totally unlistenable.
I couldn't listen to the book the narration was that bad.
Pull the book. You are stealing people's money with this narrator.
Not a lot that I liked about this book. I loved the previous versions. This one is not written in the same voice and seems to move from tone to tone. It appears to have been pieced together by at least two writers.
I have listened to many books by James Rollins before and this is the worst hands down. The tone and voice of the writer changes frequently and appears to have been written by more than one person. At times there are glimpses of Rollins' writing style but it is lost again quickyl
Everything. He distracts from the story but I wonder if that wasn't intentional since the writing is disjointed as well. Christian Baskous is monochromatic and dull and his voices would have been better off left out. Each person sounds relatively the same to the others making it difficult to follow.
Not if it is written as this one or read by this performer.
The author is not the problem with this book as I have read and enjoyed many and most of his books. The narration was terrible. the orator used inflections in all the wrong places, and the accents were not even close. Trying to listen to this book was so difficult that on many occasions I lost the story line as the guy speaking just made it too hard to follow.
no, not if he reads all of his titles like this
no, again, this was due to the horrific narration.
I am a huge fan of the Sigma Force novels by James Rollins. I love their combination of history, religion, science, and intrique. In The Eye of God the world is once again on the brink and only Sigma can move fast enough to save it. Not only do they have to find and neutralize a relic that is putting a comet on a collision course with Earth but they also have to deal with the Chinese Triad, North Koreans, and a meglomaniac Mongolian who believes he is Genghis Khan reborn.
This book delivers a powerful story that keeps you on the edge of your seat. I ususally like the narrators of James Rollins' books but this one fell short. In particular, I didn't like the way he voiced the female characters. The accent and inflection he uses for Saichan, Rachel and Vigor is also extremely annoying. Having said that, this book is definitely worth reading or listening to. Just prepare yourself for the narrator.
Used the original reader that you used for all the previous books!! Why change? The guy reads in mono tone.. its painful to listen to after reading the first 8 books.. I had to speed the voice up 1.5 times just to make it tolerable... I loved the books and started the series because I read the dust jacket for the Eye of God at the bookstore.. I really was looking forward to this book and you killed it with your choice of reader...
The s l o w m o n o t o n e reading!!!
Poor performance and mediocre story at best. I am a die hard fan of the series and I had trouble getting through this one. As other reviews stated, the narrator is not good, but the story is not a whole lot better.
This story does have the same race against the clock urgency to it, and I like the intelligence of the dark energy discussions. I even like the new character, the African American female scientist. But this book is missing an arch nemesis, a "specter like" organization that is trying to manipulate the world as sigma races to overcome the best laid plans.
I will read the next book in the series, but I hope the publisher finds a better narrator.
this is the first time I've lisened to Christian baskous . unless it is something I absolutely cannot do without, I will not buy anything else narrated by him. cannot keep voices straight and tries to 'embellish' at the wrong times.
YES! I had to really concentrate to listen.
of course, James Rollins is great.
