I was so bored with this, I returned it. I wasn't even going to bother with a review, but I feel like there are too many people - obviously - who don't like to be negative and so all you get are fawning reviews from the easily impressed. I mean, that's my best guess.
I liked Fifty Shades, but this wanna-be, copy-cat really lacked the depth, character development and plot that Fifty had - and since the latter wasn't exactly great literature, that's saying a lot.
It was weak when the heroine's impression and inner dialogue told me that the "hero" was "dominate" before she had a real reason to think so. I guess we were just supposed to know from all the other similarities to Fifty...
There seem to be so many knockoffs of popular books... and I, like others, go looking for for another compelling read in the same vein, but all too often are disappointed.
The story overall is so and so, as I had expected. But the narration is very very bad. Especially the male voices were the worst. The main male character's voice sounded like a cave man!
Hot romance/Sci Fi we're so lucky to have Audible to feed our book addictions. I love walking my precious dog Sydney & listening to my books
WOW, this book is So very capturing. It Gras you from the start and doesn't let you go Then it leaves you rushing Greedily to listen to the next book in this Perfect series. Thanks Raine Miller for writing such a wonderful story that it has left me wanting - I WAN'T SO MUCH MORE OF THIS STORY that i am straight onto book 2 :)
It was way too rushed for me with poor character development. Even if it is a series this first book did not have enough substance. If an author wants to entice readers to continue then you need to care enough about the characters to want to know more. Too bad
I am a sucker for characters like this. Girl with scarred past - Passionate overprotective man who loves her, wants to help her... etc. This is very similar to Crossfire.
I should have paid attention to the fact that this book is not even 4 hours long... I was startled when it ended (in the very predictable spot - same as crossfire, same as 50 shades).
It's one of my favorites of 2016! Narrator Grace Grant was fantastic. Her performance was flawless.
I like to imagine being the heroine when I read. Luckily in this case, I had no problem living in Brynne's skin, making her easily my favorite character.
The scene that takes place over last few pages of Ch. 7 was one of my favorite scenes between Brynne and Ethan.
The last office scene definitely evoked a strong reaction in me.
I'd never read any novels by Raine Miller before I met her for the first time at the 2015 Authors Under the Lights book signing event in Universal City, CA. I asked her for a recommendation and went with this one. Even though I own an autographed paperback copy of this novel, I'm really happy that I chose to listen to the audiobook format. I enjoyed the narration as well as the story so much that I did an immediate reread. I'm excited to read All In: The Blackstone Affair, Book 2 next.
Too busy to read as much as I'd like, Audible is the perfect solution. I'm a romance reader mostly, but can stray into any story.
I absolutely loved this book. Insta-love is usually reserved for fun, light hearted books that you read or listen to when you need a break from intensity, as it can come across as corny. This was most definitely insta-love but not corny at all. I believed every word and every emotion. I can't wait to get to the next book.
Grace Grant is one of my favorite narrators, but I'm not so sure this was the right book for her as her British accent isn't the strongest and there was a lot of it. I hope there is more Shane East in the next one.
It was expensive for such a short novel. I've paid way less for books five times as long.
Story was ok.
Lower the price.
I enjoyed the story, and the characters. I really do not like these 'cliff hangers' where you don't have any idea about the ending without buying another of the authors books. Kind of a ripoff. Nevertheless, I have bought the next book to find out how the story resolves. I just hope it doesn't require me buying Another to find out. If so, that'll be it for this author for me.
