This series is just plain fun. The characters are funny, the story line is great. It's just like potato chips, you can't read just one.
The reader doesn't take herself seriously, which is a perfect fit for this series.

First Thought when Finished: I love Charlie but I am thrilled we got more Cookie in Fifth Grave Past the Light!
Story Thoughts: Poor Charlie! The life of a Grim Reaper is never boring. Her love life is even more complicated that her Grim Reaper job. I am not sure how she maintains her excellent sense of humor but that is what makes me love her. Let's talk about how Cookie played an awesome role in this installment. I loved that she stepped up to the plate in only way that Cookie can (baseball bats, guns, sexy outfits, and snark). She kicked some serious bootie. The story was two-fold in Fifth Grave: the case of the cheating husband and the ongoing arson case. Both were solved but you are going to have to read to find out how. Let's just say that the stakes were higher, the emotions rawer, and the humor over-floweth!
Favorite Parts: Cookie's daughter showing us the sign language she learned. Uncle Bob getting flustered when called on his crush. The very last scene with Charlie and Reyes!
Character Thoughts: I adore Charlie, Cookie, Reyes, Uncle Bob, Garret, and Gemma! They are a great cast that just plays well off of each other. They sparkle, shine, and having amazing wit. I am hoping that we get more of the shrink in the books to come. I also was happy to see Gemma more in this installment. I think we are finally getting to really know her and I like her! Overall the characters are what shine in the Charley Davidson series. I don't think you will be disappointed in them.
Narrated By Lorelei King / Length: 8 hrs and 52 mins
Freaking brilliant! I wouldn't do this series in any other way as I think I would miss Lorelei's voice while reading. I highly recommend these on audio. As always, remember to listen to a sample before purchasing an audio book to make sure the narration works for you.
Final Thoughts: I refuse to look at the release date for the next one because I fear it is 2014 *sigh*
In this addition Charley, the Grim Reaper and private investigator, who can see the dead, has her apartment overrun with blonde women who have been dead for decades. They are scared, dirty, bloody and won’t talk to her. Are they the victims of a serial killer? Why are they suddenly showing up now? And yet despite this, the humor is once again over the top.
Meanwhile, Reyes is making himself at home as Charley's neighbor who thinks they “should date." … "You're going to have to go to obedience school for that to happen. You have authority issues." (read the previous books to see who Reyes is) Reyes and his sticky notes are not only sexy but also a riot.
When Gemma's life is in danger, Charley will do anything to protect her ... even sell her soul to the son of Satan. Although she and her sister’s relationship has evolved they are not best friends.
Love Cookie, Charley’s secretary and best friend, who is more than a lot of fun in this book. Will she end up with Mr. Swopes?
Reyes and Garrett are interesting to watch with their male posturing over Charley. Both are protective and possessive.
I can picture Reyes in an apron and nothing else and I am sure that is what his ardent admires are visualizing. Reyes Farrow is definitely at the top of his game in this book with the perfect mix of sexy, sarcastic, and funny with many wisecracks.
Will Rocket's prediction be revealed in the next book, along with Charley's reaction to that last scene of the book?
I want the next book to be out NOW!
The Charley Davidson series are for anyone who wants to have fun & laugh while following a crime investigation. Great mysteries of both the ghostly and human kind being solved by funny and lovable characters you can't get enough of. All that and a roller coaster romance you can't help but root for. Buy all the books now.
LOVED IT!!! But what the hell....how could it just end where it did and we now have to wait until 2014 to find out....that's just mean.....and as usual Lorelei King does a fabulous job!
Funny, sexy, romantic
I've listened to all of the Charley Davidson series narrated by Ms. King, and she is perfect.
Darynda Jones is the best! I love the chemistry between Charlie and Reyes. The characters interact so well and the story line just flows and I feel like I'm actually apart of the book. The wait and anticipation between each book is totally worth it. I am one happy reader/listener!
This novel is in my top 5 favorites. It has all of my favorite elements, sass, suspense, surprises and salubriously sinful sex!
I would compare it to Molly Parker's "Nice Girls Don't" series of novels. There are some compelling parallels, with the main characters both being supernatural beings, surrounded by human family, fighting for right, and finding alluring men.
Lorelei King does an excellent job vocalizing each of the characters. She imbues each one with life and character to fill out the written personality.
She knows the pathway to Heaven, he knows the pathway out of Hell. Can they find a pathway to each other?
I listened to this story a couple of times so that I was sure I didn't miss any of the nuances. This is a very interesting story that keeps me asking questions. I can't wait until all of the loose ends come to a conclusion. ..but then I will long for more. I really love this character.
Charlie's quirky character. Interesting supernatural twist with a good dose of humor.
Charlie is a supernatural Kinsey Milhone. I would compare this more to the Sue Grafton series as much as to the more obvious supernatural ones.
Ms. King narrates many of the books I listen to. She has a great talent for bringing a natural warmth to her female characters.
Not just your average P.I.
I can't say enough about this character or this series. Very entertaining!
An excellent light and fluffy read (listen).
Charlie Davidson is on fire and the humour and characters have developed through the series. In book one and two, both the characters and humour felt a bit forced, but in the last 3 they have both matured.
