Great Stories. I like the part about growing a crazy beard and collecting cats.
Awesome professional speaker, great reader by default.
Great concepts throughout. Critics Math was helpful. I also enjoyed the honesty transparency with things like the story about his honeymoon and wanting to make life long friends LOL. Reminds me to be careful with ideas and expectations.
I also found great insights in understanding ideas / emotions that come along with success that can throw one off track, and even how one can actually sabatoge their own success because of supressed fear. Rang true for me and I'm thankful for what I learned from this book.
Book nerd for life!
It was narrated by the author and he was passionate about the book.
Same as the book
I needed an audiobook that wasn't boring and that would keep my interest. This definitely was it. I was procrastinating reading/listening to this book, and it was everything and more. Loved the enthusiasm (can't beat hearing the author narrate the book), lots of good stories and motivation and tips. I now want to read more of Jon's books. I'm officially punching fear in the face and starting!
Motivational, Fun, Accessible
Jon Acuff is an AMAZING speaker and this is one of the best audiobook narrations I've ever heard. I imagine the book is great in print as well, but the way Jon tells stories is very engaging. Nothing about his speaking voice is dull.
I've read dozens of self-development books and this one is definitely at the top of the list (my other fav's would be How to Win Friends and Influence Others and Unstuff Your Life). There was not a single dull moment in this book, and even though it is directed at any age group, I feel like it is especially accessible and inspiring for younger people (20s, 30s). I wish I had read this book years ago! (if it had existed... which it didn't)
I became familiar with the author from his "Stuff Christians Like" book and enjoy his wit
& humor. We are kindred spirits.
I'm also a management & business book enthusiast. And honestly Jon did better here then I assumed he might. That said I'm between a John C Maxwell & Jim Collins Good to Great book. Kind of deeper in the pool.
BUT this was inspiring and motivating in ways those aren't, and may just be feeding a niche those other authors neglected. And so, where my soon to graduate High School son and my wife might NEVER pick up a John Maxwell book, I'm insisting he give this one a listen before college enrollment.
Jon Acuff is amazing. He is full of life knowledge. I found the book to be real and inspiring. Sometimes authors portray their lives as perfect; however, Jon provides suggestions based upon his own experience.
I don't know if I've ever listened to such an engaging audio book. It felt more like an inspiring public speech rather than an audio book.
That is just a bonus. The information provided in this book encourages the listener to pursue their own talents and passions by giving practical and honest advice on how to do it. It's awesome!
Great mix of inspiration and practical steps. The feel of the book was lighthearted while still maintaining a level of seriousness that is necessary when talking about taking action steps to "start" the road to where you want to be.
