"great funny and enjoyable"
there are plenty reviews of this book all are positive and I would totally agree. brilliant and worth listening , looking froward to the sequel
"ENJOYABLE INSIGHT INTO A HIGH FUNCTIONING AUTISTIC"
Dons character was immediately so likeable...he lack of conscious insight into his behaviour and how he was perceived by others. His earnest but strict living routine made you squirm in embarrassment for him, but ultimately you wanted him to get the girl....
his obvious compatibility with rosie and how he was in her company, yet he was completely blindsided by his questionnnaire...
getting inside the character of don, and however much we may laugh and giggle at his faux pas and social blunders.... we are immediately made aware of the struggle he has in trying to live day-to-day with his social awkwardness...the scene i most enjoyed was how he really threw himself into his waitress role
the dinner dance was hilarious
really enjoyed the story
This is such an enjoyable story and flows well. Good Ozi accent sets the right tone. Highly recommended. Now to find other books from same author.
"Really enjoyable story"
Really enjoyable fun story with interesting & likeable characters. Good narration and great to be an Australian accent for a change
"The Perfect Audio Book"
Both very funny and very charming, beautifully crafted and exceptionally well delivered. I've just noticed there's a sequal but I don't know if I dare...how can this one be equalled or bettered? Watch this space....
"I laughed out loud!"
Loved it and would highly recommend . I laughed, and cried with Don and Rosie's adventures. It's the grown ups version of the curious incident of the dog in the night
"Deliciously lighthearted but sustaining."
Although written with a clear eye out for instant transition to the screen, who minds? Yes, it foregrounds people with unconventional behavioural traits ( again) but it is a nice foil for even those who prefer the more serious approaches to reading.
There are numerous instances where we are cajoled to listen with bated breath as the protagonists formulate earnest attempts at Life using whatever props work, or don't work, for them. Courage personified.
The reader pleasantly blends the utterly tangible, authentic Australianicity of this story with an easy access for anyone to understand.
This was an entertaining and easy listening book with an amusing story line. Don is a lovable & amusing main character
"A charming bit of escapism!"
This was a delightful, albeit lightweight, novel that made a long journey much more pleasant. It isn't world shattering literature, but it was certainly worth the time I expended listening to it.
The characters portrayed were interesting and so I found myself, willingly, drawn into a desire to know how things would turn out for them.
Ummm and I'm also a sucker for unlikely happy endings!
Dan O'Grady brought the book to life. I'm no longer certain if it was written in the first person but Dan made me believe it was,
Yes I smiled almost all of the way through it. Very uplifting!
"Not what I usually listen to, but..."
Thanks to other listener ratings and reviews I gave it a go and am extremely pleased I did - thoroughly recommend
