Joe is relentless
Joe ledger vs Erasmus toll
check out all the ledger books especially patient zero
I have become a bit of a fan of Jonathon Maberry since I picked up Patient Zero in a book store a couple of years ago. This continuation of Joe Ledger's adventures didn't dissapoint, This is not great literature but it never intends to be, it is a "boys own adventure" that is well researched and flows nicely. I especially enjoyed the performance, the narrator has the right tone and 'tude for the main character.
A blend of science fiction, political underdealings, and go get 'em action with just a hint of romance to soften it all. Sounds odd, right... like a hodgepodge? Some how Jonathan Maberry makes it all work. Really smart writing on all levels.
If you're new to Maberry's Joe Ledger series you can jump into the deep end with this one just fine. The writing and Porter's reading are just that good. Once you do that, you'll just want to go back to Book One anyway (Patient Zero) where I became a fan, and work your way forward. If you're currently a Joe Ledger fan, I'm preaching to the choir. You should be downloading already!
Total Mind Blown
You feel drawn into the story and invest in the characters, It's an incredible series!
I love Ray Porter! I look him up before any purchase to see if he has anything new and interesting out. He is ideal in my opinion for military or high intensity books! Great performance!
YES!! I didn't want to stop!
I would highly recommend this series to anyone that loves SiFi or military themed books! Very well done!
If you haven't read the 4 previous "Joe Ledger" books (plus a number of short stories), you'd be well-served to check them out first. There's a reason this series has reached (so far) five volumes.
This book is the most ambitious in terms of scope, and hints at developments in future books. "Extinction Machine" is also a refreshing departure from the previous books in that, even with an omniscient narrator, we're not really sure what's going on until the end, and then only maybe.
Maberry likes to punish his characters, and in this installment especially so. "Extinction Machine" is definitely the darkest book so far in the series.
As always, Ray Porter's narration is spot-on.
Love the horror genre but read all kinds of stuff! I'm 40 something, a wife, mom and Project Manager for a large Construction Company.
This book does not disappoint. In fact Joe is funnier and more brutal than in previous books.
These books are my guilty pleasure! Can't wait for the next one (my husband enjoys them too!).
I like autumn night times. Curtains drawn. The dim lamp. Chaired with a book. Fireside hours. A warm peace.
I'd say at least in my top five suspense/thriller genre books. Overall, top ten easily.
I can't really say any of the other books I've read compare to this one. I've tried other thrillers and either got bored or the narrator was bad. This one blew me away, and I'm a tough critic. The action, suspense, and unexpected twists kept me coming back for more. Very well written story. This was my first Jonathan Maberry book, and I'll be getting some of his other books too, now that I know what to expect...pure entertainment.
Joe Ledger of course. Ray Porter would sound good reading stereo instructions, he literally makes the listener "experience" the book. He's that good.
It could easily be one of those books to listen to all in one sitting, narrator Ray Porter combined with excellent writing, you can't go wrong.
As I said, this was my first Maberry book, and I was thoroughly entertained from beginning to end. I read the reviews, bought the book, and am now a big fan.
Have always loved to read. Life is busy, marriage, work, the kids. Time is limited. My commute is now listening to my books. Heaven!
The character of Joe Ledger, the story is always fun but it's Joe who makes the story come together and Ray Porter channels Joe perfectly
Joe Ledger, hero with flaws, he's so much fun
Ray Porter is Joe Ledger for me, he appears to get right into the character and have fun with the reading
Absolutely, I do believe I did listen to it in one perhaps 2 sessions
Please keep the Joe Ledger legend coming!!!!
Something... well, it said to say "something" about myself.
Maberry delivers once again in The Extinction Machine. The rock-n-roll action never stops from start to finish and is Maberry's usual gotta stay up to finish this type story. So I was totally pumped to find the first two books in this series, Patient Zero and Dragon Factory, on sale here on Audible. So now I get to listen to the first two books I read before! Ray Porter does an outstanding job on the narration, bringing Joe and the gang to life, and is perfect for the series.
Not much to tell! I used to read alot, but now that I need reading glasses, I enjoy listening to books instead of having to wear glasses!
Spellbinding, testosterone fueled fun. I loved every minute of everyone of these books! What am I going to do now?? I need more!
