By "trigger-y", I mean that the experiences of the heroine made me a little uncomfortable and it was difficult at times for me to handle the brutal discussions/descriptions of what she'd been through. I don't think Banks handle things badly, however, if you're sensitive to issues of rape and sexual violence (especially to the extent this character experienced), you may want to reconsider.
I enjoyed the story and I liked the characters, but there was a lot of repetition of regarding everyone's feelings which make the book seem 20% longer than it needs to be. Also, I'm now really tired of the word "flesh".
I was looking forward to the second book in this series. The first one was OUTSTANDING. This second book missed the mark by a longshot. There was so action, only a lot of internal thoughts from the main character. And I agree with another reviewer, it was never explained why a woman who was kidnapped, raped and imprisoned was hated by the entire clan. That made no sense at all.
The narraration was outstanding as usual. Kirsten Potter does an excellent job with voice inflection, emotion and different voices. I can always listen to her. I'll listen to another Maya Banks, but I was not sold on this story at all. I hope #3 is better.
I'm a lover of books, both read and audible.
I’m a huge fan of Maya Banks. When I read the first book of this series, I was touched by the affection portrayed between the hero and heroine. I have to admit that I didn’t like Bowen in the first book. I wanted to hit him in the eye. But in this book, I downright feel in love with Bowen Montgomery. The strength and passion that he displayed throughout this book, made me feel in love with his story.
As always, Kristen Potter did a fantastic read and added just the right amount of emotion and depth to the characters. I was captive with this book from page one didn’t remove my headphones until the final word was spoken.
I highly encourage this book, this series. Read and Enjoy.

highlander books are the best and this one was wonderful. i was not disappointed. loved it
I fell in love with Bowen. I fell in love with Genevieve. I fell in love with their love. The readers performance is remarkable. I could tell the difference in each character!
Enjoy romance, erotic, and YA
I a can't believe I became emotional & teared up. This was the 2nd book in series. Each book is a stand alone with characters from 1st book appearing in this book. Worth the credit.
I love Maya Banks Highlander series! Kirsten is one the best narrators, worth the credit or buying outright.
This highlander book is well written.
great interaction between main characters. Sexual tension was good.
she's good, but not my favourite.
Don't look for any humorous banter. This is not exactly a "feel good" novel. The heroine has been kidnapped, raped and had her "extraordinarily beautiful face ruined by knife scar" all before the story starts. The people of the clan she was abducted into continue to tread her abominably even after the villain is killed off -- that happen in book #1 in the series.
Every time someone commits some new act of cruelty towards her, the heroine is brave and tries not to cry, but she often does. If she doesn't cry it is because she is in too much despair and too depressed to cry.
The hero forces the heroine's only friend in the clan to tell him bits and pieces of the heroine's story. She never wants to betray her friend's confidence, but eventually breaks down in tears and does so.
The author eventually does deliver the required HEA, but just before that happens the hero becomes so upset about how he and other people have treated the heroine that he breaks down and cries.
