I read the book first before getting it on audio and in my opinion, this is the best Highlander based story that I have read or listened to.
Both books in the series are good! I really loved this one, it was so heartwarming and delightful to listen to. When you listen to the narration, you get a sense of what the characters face as opposed to just reading it. I found this story so enjoyable just because it gives you that perspective of so many different emotions that take place.
It was good to read a story with a romance appeal (not just lots of sex) and it made me cry too when I read it the first time, then again when I listened!
I just hope that more books come out of this series with some of the other characters.
Love to read!
This book started off really well with quite a bit of drama and tension. I didn't want to stop listening until about half way through. The story suddenly became stagnant and didn't seem to go anywhere. I had to make myself finish it. I really wish Maya Banks had done something with the last half, it could have been an excellent book.
I've been an avid reader since I was a child. I love different types of writing styles and I am never afraid to try new authors.
I love this series, love Kristen Potter narrating this book and am really looking forward to more installments. This wasn't my favorite of this author but it was still great to listen to.
I am a lover of books. I enjoy losing myself in a fabulous romance and great story plot.
Bowen Montgomery finds true love in the arms of Genevieve McInnes. Genevieve is the ultimate survivor and Bowen her ultimate hero and champion. A torturous experience which ends with a "love conquers all" experience. Although there were times that my stomach hurt in hearing about Genevieve's victimization at the hands of that animal Ian McHugh, the healing power of love is what makes this story very moving. I love the ending...Genevieve is not only vindicated, but empowered with her man at her side. Great read/listen!
Narrator: Kirsten Potter is great! She does a wonderful job of creating unique voices for all of the characters. She made the listening experience very enjoyable.
Absolutely, I was completely in love with the story, the characters and the location. It gave me hours of pleasure and I couldn't wait for the next chapter. I hated to see it end, but I'm looking forward to the next book in this series, Highlander Ever After. I just hope it will be possible to listen to it also. I just want to say that this site is under my husbands name, but I'm his wife, Beverly who actually listens to all the books on this app...
I also listen to Clan Books by Jennifer Ashley and Monica McCarty. Your Books and theirs are about the Highlands, the Scottish Clans and history. Since I love the era and history of the Scottish Highlands I very much enjoy them and never get tired listening about the different Clans.
I listened to her in Never Seduce A Scot, her performance was wonderful. Her accent was perfect for this book, and she made it so pleasant to listen to. I would definitely listen to another book she narrates.
Yes, at times I laughed and cried. But enjoyed every word of it. The Book seemed to draw me into that place and time. One which I hated to leave and wanted more...
I just want to say Thank You to Maya for writing such wonderful Books about a time and place of pleasure and pain, but ending each Book with love and showing the endurance of a family that was made stronger by it.
This book is in my top 10 and it's only the second of the series and the first is also in the top 10 so that should say a lot.
Find out the details of Genevieve and the torture she went through and what she did to get her freedom. It was in best terms messed up but it was a necessary evil. After you listen I'm sure you would think to yourself, "heck yeah, I would have done that too"....
I listened to her in the first book, "Never Seduce a Scot" and I loved her in that book as well which is another reason why it made getting this book such a great decision. I wish I would have known about this book prior to spending a credit on a book recommend by the concierge.
I just loved that everything was so feasible. Nothing was too far fetched and seemed to be very realistic. Kirsten brought all the characters to life.
I would recommend this book and while I believe it would be best to listen to them in order this book could stand alone because it does answer any backdrop questions you may have while listening. You will go through a roller coaster of emotions...well at least I did. I laughed, got angry at some of the bad treatment of the heroine, and again as w/the other book got a little teary eyed.
I love books and love to get lost in the fantasy. I'm always looking for a new good story to bury myself in. :)
This is a very good story and a great continuation of the series. Genevieve and Bowen make such a good couple that I was happily rooting for them at the end.
Genevieve was a captive of a very evil man, Ian McHugh who was killed in book 1, Never Seduce a Scot. With Ian's death, Genevieve is now free but she has no money or place to go so she's still there when Bowen and the others arrive at the keep.
Bowen was one of the men sent to the McHugh keep to take it over after everything that occurs from book 1. He finds himself fascinated by Genevieve and tries to figure out her story. Once he does he finds he has developed feelings for her but fears she'll always be too wounded to return his feelings.
Genevieve was almost broken when Bowen came and saved her. He was the first man to be tender with her and he shows her what love between a man and woman can be. She comes alive again but there's still a sadness in her because she fears contacting her family for fear they'd reject her for the evil Ian did to her. Bowen feels out that she'll never be truly healed until she reunites with her family so he contacts them without her knowledge.
In the end, Genevieve reunites with her family and leaves Bowen to go back to her Clan. She's happy to see her family and be home but is sad because she misses Bowen. I was really happy with the ending but my only issue is the reason why they ended up back together but I was so happy they got their HEA that it really didn't matter...I was satisfied with the ending.
Very good book. I did like the first book better but this one was still very good and well worth the listen. I'd recommend it. 2 thumbs up! :D
This is another great addition to Maya Banks Highlander books. I loved the McCabe Triilogy and am also loving the Montgomerys and Armstrongs. Kristen Potter is excellent too!
Wife to sometimes neglected husband (due to listening to audiobooks) and mother to adult children. I am a relatively recent avid reader/listener, only really starting to read for pleasure a few years ago but now am thoroughly addicted.
I love a book that gets me so into the storyline so much that I laugh and cry. I found myself crying several times throughout the story but it wasn't a depressing story at all. I was a little hesitant because another reviewer commented negatively about Maya Banks' heroines of this particular series being damaged in one way or another and that reviewer found the storyline of this book unbelievable because of the physical and emotional trauma the heroine went through being held prisoner and raped. I had that review in mind as I listened to this book and I disagreed with that reviewer, and found the story very interesting and enjoyable and completely plausable.
Like the romance, but love the action involved to get there!
I adored book 1, heck I downloaded book two before I was done with book one...but there wasn't the same magic.
This book is centered around a woman who is of high birth and she was stolen by an evil man on the way to be married. Over the course of a year he forced her to do all kinds of unspeakable things...then a clan came to storm the castle (for a legitimate reason) and her tormenter was killed. It had a great start...but then the most annoying thing happened...it was discovered that the clan she was in, the clan of the evil man who had abducted her, openly mocked her as the evil mans whore.
This makes NO sense to me at all. They all knew she was taken against her will, forced to do things against her will, and yet only one person in the whole clan felt sorry for her rather than openly mocked her? This was the crux of almost the whole story and since I don't understand why people would treat her like this I didn't get the story, it just felt based on a lie or a writers need to further the plot, and I really hate it when books do that.
So for me I would have to say this book isn't worth it...maybe if you get it during the $4.95 sale, but not credit worthy.
