This is an amazing story I couldn't stop listening to it that's why I love nora's books
Friend of God... Saved by grace... Mother of 3 gifts... Wife of one... Worship dancer.... Educated by God, Academia and Willy Wonka...
I am one of those individuals who will finish a book at most costs once I have started it - risky I know - so I managed to get through this one. Overall, I just did not care one way or the other about the characters or the story line. The first 14 or so chapters just went on without event. After that you get just to enough to think things may pick up some and, after what seems like 100 hours of story later, it ends very predictably. I really wish I could have just called Eli, told him who killed his wife, and saved us both the time and effort.
I felt like this is the same story with the character names change. I just finished Midnight Bayou - rich man, new age, beautiful woman, and a wonderful house. Change the beach house to a lush, antebellum home, make the grandmother hers instead of his, add a few ghosts and stir. All in all, this was not the story I needed to keep me entertained during my daily commute.
The performance was OK I guess. I just wanted him to reel it in a little bit. Some of expressions for characters were a little over the top. However, I do appreciate that he gave every character their own voice.
Redeeming qualities - I did giggle a little at a passage or two. I'm fishing so I will stop here.
you can't find a better narrator on Audible than this guy! He is amazing. The story was fun, interesting and suspenseful. I enjoyed it very much but enjoyed the narration as much as the story, it was great and I was sorry when it ended.
Nothing comes to mind, I really loved it because it felt very different.
Loved the main character, the surfer police man and the cop named Frost. Just loved the way he could do the voices and it felt natural, not forced.
Great story, great characters!
Really enjoyed the performer. Made the story come to life.
Yes. I originally bought this book with a different narrator. I had a hard time getting invested sin the story. Since this was rereleased with Luke Daniels as the narrator, I redownloaded and was much happier with it. I wish there was some way Audible could let buyers know when a book was done with a different narrator.
Most of Nora Roberts mystery type books have a similar flavor. I enjoy them enough that I usually listen to them at least a couple of times a year and never get tired of them.
When Abra fights off her attacker.
Once again, narration is key to enjoying a book.
I love Nora Roberts books but the use of a male for narration is off-putting. Although the main character is male, the author is a female and writes with a female voice and perspective. Luke Daniels makes the female characters sound whiney and weak. If you want to enjoy the book, you are better off reading it rather than listening to it.
One great read
Abra - she was so positive and full of life and energy
Not sure I have ever listened to any of his performances, but I will be looking for them now. He made the book flow and each person an individual entity that you could tell apart just by his voice. Wonderful performance on this book.
Overacted, distracting performance. Should have been a less affected actor... disappointed. Can't understand how this was so highly rated...
Too much! So distracting...
The story was good, performance was just awful.
Say something about yourself!
I probably would have enjoyed the abridged version much better
Yes I have older books/audible that I have re-listened to and probably will listen to again. May not buy any new books again, unless abridged
Luke Daniels is the only reason I continued to listen to this book, he is always reliable.
I would. This book was just OK, but some have been excellent.
More of a plot. It was somewhat boring and the woman's voice was irritating
I thought he did an excellent job for the man's voice, but terrible for the woman's voice. I think they should consider a male and female narrator the next time.
