Edwina "I Love Books'
Yes, its very well done and excellent story. sizzle hot romance and great characters. The narrator was very very good. I really enjoyed this book on audio!
Magnificent she did a great job and made the story come alive. She is one of the best narrators I have heard.
The Lions Lady!!
I love to listen to audiobooks. It is great when the narrators get into the story and really bring the characters to life.
This book is great! I loved the story, the characters and the narration. I don't like to give spoilers so I will just say if you like strong characters and a great romance then you will love this book. Susan Duerden is a wonderful narrator. She did a great job distinguishing between the characters.
I love Epic Fantasy....have become a Historical Romance fan because I am a sucker for a good Happily Ever After. Good characters are a must
This is one of Garwood's best! I was hooked from the first few minutes. Romance, mystery, drama, humor, excitement......this book has everything! I didn't want to press pause. Well developed story.....well developed romance.......well developed characters. I really can't find a weak element of this book. I LOVED IT! Susan Duerden is extremely talented as a narrator. I'm always shocked when I hear her male voices after a few books by other narrators....she does have a different male voice style but after a few minutes it's all good and she makes the story come alive.
LISTEN TO THIS BOOK....AND SERIES!
Never ever will I ever attempt to hear a book narrated by Susan Duerden. This sing-song growling voice needs to get a different career! I kept having to adjust the volume. The same over and over rhythm drove me crazy!!!!
I have not read the print version, but I loved the Audio version.
The prologue to the book was a wonderful description of what had happened in the first days of Christina's life and the dream of the Shaman was so descriptive that you could not help but be drawn in.
I loved the voices and her calm cadence which she uses while speaking.
No extreme reaction, but I can remember thinking, could that really happen?
I really liked this book. Thankfully if you don't agree with me you can return this book. I would recommend that if you like other Julie Garwood books, or other historical romance books then you should try this book.
Set in 1814 London, this romantic suspense is an old favorite, but I couldn't tolerate Duerdan's unpleasant portrayal of Aunt Patricia and a few others, including Christina's old butler and Lyon's best friend (to some extent). I cringed nearly every time they spoke. They frequently sound enraged, almost spitting with it -- especially the aunt. When Duerdan sounds gratingly hateful, she makes the listening experience nearly intolerable. On the up side, her portrayal of Christina and Lyon is excellent. She seems to utilize her natural voice for them. It's very pleasant, flowing, easy on the ears. I liked her non-dialogue narrator voice, too.
I gave one star overall, but really the one star goes to the narrator. Breathy, whiny and not at all pleasant to listen to. Put me on edge and distracted from story. I listened to about 30 minutes and couldn't take anymore.
Julie has really done it again! A great heroin, with a new story line. No clammy, boring English fellows here - this Lord is just the right one to match wits with Christina. Excellent, highly recommend, enjoyed every minute! The narrarator switched from a young girl, a man, another man to a nasty old countess within seconds and you don't even notice.
Garwood infuses humor, endearing characters, intrigue and steaminess for a good read. I enjoyed this book and I am looking forward to reading more of the series.
Her voice has a monotonous way of trailing off in the same sing-song manner at the end of each sentence. The gravelly tone of the male characters is annoying at best, and they all sound the same with the exception of Rhone whose voice she manages to make clear, and distinctive.
I am not yet finished, because I can only listen to the narrator for short periods of time, but the story has me coming back to it faithfully.
I got the entire Crown's Spies series, and am dismayed that all are narrated by the same narrator.
