I travel (Drive) up to 12 hours per week. Filling this time with great stories helps me to keep my sanity.
Very original world and story line with uniquely interesting characters. The story is told from several different charaters perspectives. From each of the perspectives, it is easy to root for them all even if they are seemingly on opposite sides of the same struggle.
I am not familiar with his other work, after these three books, i will be looking for more of his work.
I absolutely cannot wait for book four after the cliff hanger at the end of book three.
No. I like larger stories that take time to unfold. Would not want to rush this story.
I am now listening to this story a second time, something i rarely do. I may even listen to it again a third time, very enjoyable.
It took me a couple of chapters to get back into this story. The others were so long and detailed that I had wondered if I needed to listen to them again. But I found that I started to recognize the characters again rather quickly. I LOVE this story!! It's a world unto itself and it is just so well done. And the narration was outstanding as well. If you're on the fence about whether to get back into this story - quit procrastinating already and download this book!
Arlan (is that how its spelled?)
Just quality work. Couldn't ask for a better narrator for this story.
Just the detail and the rich characters.
Get it now.

I bought this book some time ago, started to listen to it and absolutely hated it! Maybe it was just me, maybe my head wasn't in the right place. When I recently ran out of other listening material and decided to just hunker down and bear it, so I started over from the beginning again. I originally rated it 1 star, but as you can see, have revised my rating to 4 stars :)
In the beginning, I didn't like the narrator, his voice sounded like he had a very bad cold, which maybe he did (or maybe he just grew on me) because I found myself really liking him after a while. I'm not sure if his voice changed or if I just grew accustomed to him.
This book can be very confusing at times, which may only be true in Audio form. It changes between time, place, and character sets quite often and there is little indication (at least in the audio format) when that is happening, so I went through some confusion at the start of each new segment.
The author uses a lot of complex foreign words to name things, people, places, events, etc. which change depending on the person's point of view from which he is writing. Yes, it may be very authentic, but many times I found myself not even trying to figure out what was being said or referred to, and just waiting to pick up the clues based on context. For example, one character may have 5+ parts to his/her name (think middle eastern) but also have 2 or 3 additional names due to their classification in the society. Add on top of that the point of view of the speaker and you will understand why, many times, it took me a while to even understand who was speaking or to whom they were speaking.
Okay, that's the bad stuff... This truly is a sweeping and epic novel that covers a lot of territory, nations, characters, and time. The story lines are complex, but very fulfilling and creative. The inter-personal relationships are also complex and satisfying. The action is fairly constant and well done.
Overall, I found myself very drawn into the story, captivated by the action, empathetic with the characters, and sad when the book ended. If you don't let any of the negatives get to you early on, you will be rewarded with yet another great novel in this series!
I am a writer from Toronto. I am 34 and hooked on audio books.
This series is great. The Daylight War adds a totally new perspective to the story and still keeps it fresh. Spend the credit, its got my stamp on it....so you know its great!
Artist and educator in Ohio....
Although not as action packed as the previous novels, this addition to the saga opens up a lot of the story and introduces a new view point (which will serve well in the future)... Make sure you read the first 2 novels, at least, before you listen/read this one... Great story telling as usual and wonderful to be immersed in this world again... Can't wait for the next installment...
This is the final story in the Demon Cycle. It is a masterwork.
The characters are full, and robust. The struggle between what is good and what is not, is ever expanding and constricting, ebbing and flowing into a believable pattern of events and subsequent conclusions. It all comes together, perhaps a bit to quickly, in the end.
Happy, happy reading. I hope more is to come..
I can say what I didn't love, this was supposed to be a "TRILOGY" now it's an EPIC like the WHEEL OF TIME.........I only got up to book 11 in the Wheel series because it was just too much. Even after the author Robert Jordon passed away they are still writing more Wheel of Time...... Peter V. Brett please give your readers an idea of when this series will end. Very unfair to do a bait and switch. So many Trilogy's have turned into on going epics that I just can't bother. There are some where each book can be taken individually, and that's ok but like in this one it's like some one just said ok "the end" With another hour could have at least had a little closure until next book which will be another year I'm sure.
Horrible, it was the worst way to end a book leaving reader hanging, and knowing the way Mr Brett writes it will be at least a year or more before the next book is out.
No but if it wasn't for him I don't think I could have gotten past the first part of the book he really is good at emotions and voices
Brett don't do this to your readers. You can't chop off the book and say the end where so many issues are up in the air. You didn't do it in the first two books, why this one. Also why did you go from trilogy to on going epic.......Ugh.
I believe this book kept up the quality of the first two books. I brings yet a third prospective to the story of The Warded Man bringing depth to all the main characters. To me it has developed into a well thought out story bringing in a complete story of all the characters. I was disappointed with the Cliff Hanger ending as we have to wait possibly years for the next book to come out.
Mr. Brett is a master. This book is almost as good as the Daylight Spear which has become one of my favorite books. This whole series is fantastic. Brett does a great job of painting a picture of humanity on the verge. I would recommend this book to anyone over 18. The whole series has a lot of violence and sexual content that would not be appropriate for younger listeners.
Going with the flow while we speed through the universe on a massive rock!
If you have listened to the first two books then it's pretty much a given that your going to listen to the this 3rd book. If you haven't started the Demon Cycle I would highly recommend getting into it. Each book has gotten better and Pete Bradbury delivers an excellent performance.
This is a fantasy book but it does touch on many levels of emotion. The character development is great and the author puts you into a position where you can like and hate many of the characters and your feelings will change based on their interactions.
I can't wait to see how this story will continue. This is a must listen for any fan of the fantasy genre or if your a fan of characters that kick *ss!
