Well let’s just turn up the fire and heat. And that is what happens with the second book of this series. Book 2 has more action and the heat is definitely turned with Vlad and Leila relationship. More interesting characters are introduced which has you thinking what ‘s next. You finally start to feel the fire between Vlad and Leila. A sexy strong alpha male who finally has to work a little for the woman he loves.
Yes get it if you liked book 1. I for one am looking forward to book 3.
You're so vain.
The end! I actually had to go to the book store and look up the book and verify that it actually ended that way and the audio version didn't end in the middle of the book somewhere. Worst (although on author's end - best) ending ever! The next one better come out sooner, rather than later.
Only if there was no 'Vlad' in them I think.
"Even the heartless can be turned."
I got the free eBook of the first book in the series on Kindle. Read it and thought it was a bit interesting so I figured I'd use a credit and get book two here on Audible. Well it almost ruined the series for me. When reading the first book I imagined Leila as being stong and not your usual flakey female. I pictured Vlad as a true vampire in the modern age.
But when Tavia Gilbert read the second book to me all that shattered like glass on a stone castle floor. She read Leila as being a breathless, bimbo type female and her "Vlad" accent nearly made me laugh every time she used it. I understand he would have a 'Romanian accent' but she just put the typical Dracula play voice on him and it made him very comical. Her versions of them made me think more of a Broadway vampire comedy rather than a serious love story with one of the most heartless men in history.
I will of course, get the third book. Not sure if it will be audio yet. And that is because this one felt like it ended in the middle of the story and I guess like Sheldon, I have completion issues.
I will say that Frost did a great job with the modern versus ancient attitudes and expectations and conflicts between the two main characters.
More of the story I really enjoy.
Could have absolutely listened all in one go and nearly did.
If you've loved what's come before in the series then this is more of the same...in a good way.
O Day of days when we can read! The reader and the book, either without the other is naught. Ralph Waldo Emerson. I Love to read, a great time for me is curling up with a great book!!!
This dude is just yummy. I so love this character. He is macho alpha but not afraid to show is soft side.
I cannot wait for book 3
Seeing Vlad heart broken and acting like a mortal man with feelings. Loved it!
Night Huntress books - Bones character. Vlad has made fun of his friend Cat and her husband Bones relationship, now the shoe is on the other foot. Karma, gotta love it.
Lelia. Love her inner voice. She and the inner voice are like bickering sisters. But then I always find Leila's sister very entertaining.
Extreme reaction - no. It made me laugh. The characters can give Dr. Phil a run for his money.
Vlad being brutal and cruel mixed in with being in love is very entertaining. I always look for a book with all sides covered - Funny, sad, cruel, bloody, crazed, drama and a since of yeah so what - always a sign of a great listen or read.
So far, very pleased with this new Frost series! These books are are far more along the lines of Cat & Bones, in terms of a badass heroine and a relationship that takes longer to resolve than a single novel.
I felt like the ladies in First Drop of Crimson and Eternal Kiss of Darkness were in the same mold as all romance heroines- an ordinary "every girl" archetype for a lonely reader to project herself into. Cat and Layla's unique personalities keep them from being that void, designed for reader fill.
Layla's little touch of darkness makes her a fun character to read about!
Best book ever!
When Vlad let Lelia go.
I love Tavia's style she is great in all her read and has been just as great here.
When Lelia walked got on the plan to leave Vlad I was in tears. I love this book.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
I loved how strong Leila has become and I am glad she set her foot down and held out for what she deserved....
Vlad...he is quite the character.....lol
Yes! awesome as always, she is one of my most favorite narrators...she is pitch perfect every time!!
I wish I could have!
I like the way the ending left it open for book 3, Vlad and Leila are a great team...i can not wait to hear more about them!! Now Jeaniene needs to give us more Cat and Bones!!! lol Great story!! 2 thumbs up!
A busy mum who doesnt find much time to read, however the beauty of ebooks is that i can listen while i drive or walk or am on my treadmill to name a few :) awesome!!
enthralling, exciting and dramatic
other Jeaniene Frost books....love her style and the narrator is fantastic...feel a part of the story
Tavia's voice is so soothing to hear...I love her readings of other books and she can swap between male and female nuances and have you believing what you hear with minimal effort... this one she does justice to like she does to any of the books she narrates.
absorbed at every level....laughed....didnt cry...its a vampire book so....I love the genre..
more please....and NOW!!
I am a huge Jeaniene Frost fan and love the narrations done by Tavia Gilbert but this book was not one of my favorites. I understood the need for the relationship issues between the two characters but it made rooting for them difficult. Vlad is kind of detestable throughout the book - but come on... it is Vlad the Impaler but in the other books he had so much more humor to offset his violent tendencies. The book got better towards the second half of the story and leads up to where the next book will begin. Will still be getting book three of this series...
