I am a huge Jeaniene Frost fan and love the narrations done by Tavia Gilbert but this book was not one of my favorites. I understood the need for the relationship issues between the two characters but it made rooting for them difficult. Vlad is kind of detestable throughout the book - but come on... it is Vlad the Impaler but in the other books he had so much more humor to offset his violent tendencies. The book got better towards the second half of the story and leads up to where the next book will begin. Will still be getting book three of this series...
Wife to sometimes neglected husband (due to listening to audiobooks) and mother to adult children. I am a relatively recent avid reader/listener, only really starting to read for pleasure a few years ago but now am thoroughly addicted.
Although I love Jeanine Frost's books and I thoughly enjoyed Book 1 of this series I just couldn't get past Leila's childish behavior and whining in this book. I did still enjoy the book but that was because I love Vlad as a character and the story held my interest.
Narrator Tavia Gilbert is AMAZING! I love how she makes each voice so distinct. You can always tell who is talking just by sound. I am amazing at this series and how well done it is. The story lines are so good you hang on every word and then to have Tavia bringing each character to life even more by their voice makes this a truly enjoyable experience!!!
Vlad the Impaler! I love his character so much. I have loved him since very early on in the series. I am so glad Vlad got his own book. Layla is amazing and one of best kick ass heroine's out there!!!
As I refuse to give spoilers, I will be vague.
the wedding scene was amazing, the reunion was amazing, the dungeon is amazing,
Please get a new question here. Not all books need to be a movie!!!
This was my favorite book out of all the series so far! I the series of A Night Prince Novel. I HOPE to hear move of Vlad and Layla in the future. Vlad is one of my favorite characters EVER!! He is amazing and dark!!
I cannot imagine not listening to EVERY one of Jeaniene Frost's book on audible. Tavia does such an amazing job!!!!
If you've read Once Burned then yes, read this, it's an OK follow-up. It's not nearly as good as Once Burned, and Vlad is still great and Tavia's performace is great as usual, but there's it's kinda silly with Vlad and Leila's relationship, but that comes with the territory.
It was OK, but it was predictable.
There's things I really like in this book. I like Leila's relaitonship with her sister, I think that goes places, but the book moves fast and there doesn't seem like enough attention to detail happens. It's not all fleshed out. I know it's a spin-off of the Night Huntress series, but I'd like to see more interaction between Cat and Leila, along with more of Leia's dad and his reactions to the situations in the story.
It's a fun story, but a let down from from book 1. Hopefully the conclusion has the pay-off that's been built up.
The characters are 5 stars. Most all of the story was great. The beginning was a little weak. It would be better if some of the characters in all the other books were in the story. The end was very predictable. The same villain that wasn't killed in the last book.
The ending was too predictable and using that character/ villain twice was too much let alone in another book. PICK a new villain or......
I usually listen to her books three or four times, this one only twice.
I could see developing her sister, dad, and Marty as characters coud be interesting. Bring in Bones and Minkeries.
I'm semi-retired at 67 and a recent Cancer survivor.
You bet I would and have already started. It's a wonderfully written, performed and thought out story.
Without spoiling it, one of the most memorable moments of this book had to do with Marty and Leila. Throughout this book, the ebb/flow of emotions from all the characters is done with such finesse and thoughtfulness, it is hard to single out moments beyond the ones that are too too obvious.
There were so many this time, it's hard to pick one. I won't pick the obvious but I LOVED the scene where Leila decided to touch all the weapons to prove to VLAD that she loved who he was/is. She hemorrhaged and the rest is history.
Chapter 29--I will not tease you further.
Just as with Once Burned, I have had this book in my ears at every opportunity.
Ms. Gilbert outdid herself on this one. She was magnificent as VLAD, Leila, Marty, Gretchen (I LOVED her as Gretchen--had some of THE best lines), Maximus, Cynthiana, and Mr. Dalton. I would listen to Ms Gilbert read a law book.
Characters that are funny, plot lines that are evolving and the story always continues.
Leila is fiesty and a good foil for Vlad. Vlad loves her but sees love as a weakness his enemies can exploit. If you liked Halfway to the Grave by the same author you will enjoy this series.
Tavia Gilbert is spot on with her interpretation of Vlad's accent.
I have already listened to it about 4 times. I love this story and hope there is more to come
I love the way the writer developed the relationship between Layla and Valod
I like the way she gives each person their own voice and personality.
The first time I heard it I was so touched by the over whelming feeling Valod had for Layla even thought she could not seem to see them.
I would like the writer to do a book with all the characters on a mission with their spouses. I would also like to read a book with a Wedding for Bones and Cat.
Tavia Gilbert. She is an incredible performer and is amazing with voices and accents.
As always, there are many twists and turns. There's also a lot of wit thrown in. Always a few laughs involved.
She so good with the voices and characters. They become like real people as you listen.
Couldn't say that there is one particular point that is moving to me. Enjoyed it all.
I've always enjoyed Jeaniene's books with Tavia reading. Good plots and storyline, but there's always a few great sex scene's thrown in. It's easy to let yourself get involved with the characters and stories. Will listen to all these books over and over.
What can I say, I love Jeaniene Frost! She didn't disappoint. My only problem is now having to wait for the 3rd and possible final book in this series....bummer.
