This book is excellent!! Well written and read. I am just in disbelief how badly people are treated in Scientology. My heart breaks for the children not growing up with their own families and not knowing what family is all about. I believe children should have chores (age appropriate) this goes way beyond!
I couldn't stop listening to this book. It is heartbreaking, beyond disturbing and astounding what is required of children growing up in Scientology. The author, Jenna Miscaviage Hill, would know because she lived it as the head of Scientology' David Miscaviage. When a child is punished, berated, separated from their families and threatened, no wonder they don't speak out and become robots into adulthood, forced to enforce what was done to them. Scientology will eventually go down and that weasel, David Miscaviage, will rot in prison for all the families he has torn apart.
I can not fathom how anyone could fall for such an insane religion. I understand how these poor children could have since their parents raised them in it, but how could anyone who grew up in the real world ever fall for this? Thank you for writing this book and helping anyone get out of this religion, or anyone else to even think about getting into it. This should be a must read for all people to make them realize how easy any of us could fall for even the craziest of things if we don't think for ourselves and just follow the majority around us like sheep.
Good read & incredible story. It's unreal. How can people not notice the brain washing? But, they were sheltered from the world. If you were born into it, you were screwed. Ugh, poor baby.
I almost didn't buy this book because I saw a few bad reviews. They must have been Scientologists because this book will grab & keep your attention. I have read every book on Scientology there is & listened to hundreds of hours of lectures & interviews as well as watched every documentary. For sheer enjoyment & information I highly recommend Leah Remini's book & this one. I recommend these 2 books over & all information. You will get the broadest amount of knowledge & be spellbound by both.
She was fantastic as the reader. I know it wasn't Jenna but she read it like she was Jenna complete with emotion. Great job Ms. Rustin!
My escape from hell.
You won't be sorry you purchased this book no matter how little or how much you know about $cietntology. If you don't know who Jenna is she is the niece of the current leader of the church & she knew EVERYBODY there is to know in the church with regards to the people who run the church. Every documentary you read about on the high level people who escaped Jenna knew. Between her book & Leah Remini's you really will have a broad base of knowledge of how this "church" operates & the evils that are occurring within.
I hate to admit this, but when Jenna talks about the celebrities in Scientology and what their existence is like. Even though it's a brief part of the book, it's still fascinating. Sort of like seeing a car wreck.
Maybe Helter Skelter, since it's involves a cult that brain washes it's members.
Sandy Rustin's performance takes a little getting used to because she has a very girlish voice. It makes sense, since she is the voice of Jenna who grew up in the Church of Scientology, so of course she would have a young sounding voice. While she did a great job narrating as a young girl, it's still a little difficult to get used to.
I didn't feel the desire to listen to this in one sitting, it still was captivating. Especially the second half.
If you watched "Going Clear" or read it, here's another insight into the cult life of Scientology.
