I've read this this book several times and got it to listen to whenever I'm between books since it was cheap. some said the narration was horrible but I don't agree. it may not be award winning but it was fine. I did speed it up as the narration was a bit slow for me. i did not find it difficult to follow but that may be because i am already so familiar with it. I actually listened twice in a row
Love this story! I come back to it when I want to take a break from new material or a different book. I bought it from Audible three different times with different narrators, and this version is the best.
The challenge of listening to the audio version is choosing the narrator. The narration by Emma Messenger was very well done, she successfully captured the intonations of each character. And as I continue to mature and evolve, I am able to further reflect on what a radical feminist Jane Austen really was and how some things change while others do not in regards to our roles and goals in life as women.
I obviously love this story, but I found there were times that the narrator (who is generally good) reads sentences so that it was a little boring -- when the narration wasn't a character speaking, there were times (but certainly not the bulk of the reading) that it sounded rote without much thought or feeling for what was being said. It got a little distracting, but wasn't as critical since I am well acquainted with the story. The variation of character voices is good, but the

Love How Emma Acted Out Each Parts!
No Need To Rename It.
I hardly have time to read an actual book. Being able to work and clean house while listening to a book has been wonderful I enjoyed the old time setting of the book an how Emma Messenger Brings the book to life it's quiet wonderful.
Charming, Captivating, and Insightful !
It gave me insights into a society that was bounded much by decorum, aristocracy, and a strong sense of moral code. It made me appreciate the importance of manners and measured communication in human relationships. It is interesting to note that while communication was proper and formal and somewhat restraint, the manner in which the men in the stories would suddenly propose marriage in an effusive manner to women they hardly knew was wildly surprising and somewhat entertaining.
This is the first time I was acquainted with Emma Messenger - her dramatic reading of the lines and her rendition of the characters, particularly Mrs Bennett, Mr Collins, and Lady Catherine was unique and entertaining. My appreciation of the novel was enhanced by Emma Messenger's passionate but thoughtful reading of the story. I would certainly buy another book, read by Ms Messenger, regardless of the book's content.
No. Because the language was somewhat formal and traditional and that the length of the entire audiobook was 14 over hours, it would have been hard to listen to everything in one sitting. But I found myself being drawn to the insights that the author had given us about the characters and the rather unusual and unique choice of words.
Initially I was concerned about the length of the novel and the language used might not sustain my interest - but i was wrong. I found myself being engaged, enthralled, and enlightened by this book. No wonder this book has sold more than 20 million copies since it was first published. And i can't believe that I am actually looking forward to listening to another unabridged audio book by Jane Austen.
Listening and reading a book is the best way to read a book!!!
Yes, love this book narrator is very good, and the price is awesome.
Reading Darcy's letter.
Darcy and Lizzy's encounter after he first proposed at his house.
True love is deeper than his pride and her prejudice.
Every women should read this book, and every man should learn from it.
Pride and Prejudice is of course a wonderful story that cannot be over recommended, so I'll focus this review on this audiobook in specific. I was very pleased at how inexpensive this version was. To receive nearly 20 hours of entertainment for less than $5 is amazing. Not only was the price agreeable, the performance is well done. It is read with great flow and the various voices are entertaining. My only minor complaint would be that the masculine voices tended to sound similar, but that's not terrible, and this problem was less pronounced with main characters than side characters. It is always clear, for example, when Mr. Collins is speaking vs. Mr. Darcy; it is when we get into characters like Uncle Gardiner where the voices become similar to others. I would highly recommend this version.
