The writing, the narration... Scotland! This story brings it all together. there were a few moments when I wanted to slap Joss upside the back of the head, but I am thoroughly won over.
I can't even narrow it down... I love the alpha, love the fact that Joss gives as good as she gets, love the backdrop of Scotland. Any time I am done with a book and inspired to look things up on line to see what they are writing about or get more details, I know it was a success.
A Scottish accent. :-) She is a very good narrator and manages to keep the story flowing through different characters, sexes, and accents. It is impressive.
If you get this book you will want to check out the rest of the series!
More then one person doing the voice over...
Maybe... if she was just doing the American accent
This seems to be a popular book and was recommended to me. It's about a self absorbed teenager (she's 20 something) who is very annoying and full of her self and the story is so clichéd.. falling in love with the rich business man etc... It was tedious & totally unsurprising in its outcome.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
yes, all the cursing from the heroine took away from a good listen. I own a lot of bad boy books I purchased, but this author is not for me. I read the top 5 reviews and purchased since I love a good Irish or Scottish story, but I am at ch. 6 and had to stop! Another reviewer, maybe 10 down said if over 30, you may have issues with listening. Yup!
The author may have a good story to tell, but the heroine does nothing but act like a spoiled girl who curses unnecessarily. Good writing can tell a story without this much bad language. I listened to a couple of bad boy biker stories, and yes, every sentence had bad language, but that was expected for the genre.
A good editor would have told ms Young to use either humor or more wit instead of foul language so much. Nothing wrong with cursing if it adds to the picture.
I can not stand this reader female voice. Her male voice is good, which was why I lasted to ch. 6. Her Irish voice is good but, I had to stop as her American voice was such a turn off for me. I have tons of books to be listened to and just did not want to put up with the lead female character or voice.
Just a bit better editing, and more humor and sassy dialogue. This author is on the right track.
One of the best I've listened to so far.
This is my first Paula Costello audio book and I think she's awesome. Her performance was spot on. Her ability to jump between accents - American, Scottish, English - was perfect. I was very impressed and very happy I got to listen to this book.
I loved this whole series. I laughed so hard at the names she would come up with. So far I have listened to it twice already.
True Story Book Blog
Everything. I LOVE the story but Paula does a fabulous job narrating it - possibly one of my top 3 audio books ever. I would listen to Paula read the dictionary if she did it in Braden's voice.
I hate comparing - if you love angsty romances, you will love On Dublin Street.
Everything. But especially Braden's voice/accent. She did a fantastic job.
Yes...I laughed, cried, swooned - it was amazing.
One of my favorite books of all time and all the audio book did was confirm my love!
Goodreads reviewer and blogger... also dentist and wife/mom when I get the time!
Yawn... is nap time over?
This book is wildly, WILDLY popular with my Goodreads friends. More popular than free Ben and Jerry's on a hot summer day. Then why oh why did I feel like this book has a plot that I've seen 100 times before? Maybe I'm just a jaded reader, maybe I can't read M/F contemporary romance anymore, but this book just dragged for me.
Rich, possessive MC? Check!
Broken girl with a tragic past? Check!
Back and forth relationship filled with miscommunications? Check!
Though I'm not going to be singing this book's praises any time soon, I did like quite a few things about this story. I loved the setting (the narrator did Scottish accents to die for- she did a GREAT job). I thought that the writing was competent and I enjoyed the secondary characters more than I expected to.
I think at a different time in my life, maybe two years ago when I started reading romances seriously, I would have really liked this book. Maybe I would have liked this book better in print versus audiobook? Maybe it was my mood, my month, my state of mind... whatever the reason, this book just never clicked for me. However, I'm happy that so many of my friends saw something special in this one.
23. Love to listen to books while i clean/drive/and pretty much anything else!!!! genre loves: romance, contemporary, suspense
LOVED THIS BOOK!!!! Recently, I've read a few books that i was less than pleased with so i was desperately hoping to find a book that i really loved and i did! This book contains all the things that a good romance book should have!BEFORE READING THIS BOOK, I read a review saying that even though there wasn't a ton of sex in this book it was still good, this kind of was a buzz kill because I had already boughten it and I didn't want to read another mushy gooshy book that that characters don't get it on until the very last chapter. BUT THEN i started reading it and i realized that this review was completely wrong and i'm actually considering whether the person even read it or not. There is DEFINITELY sex scenes. If you are someone who prefers more of an adult style book (i.e.- sex scenes, sexual talk yada yada) then this book then start reading this book! ! I would have to guess it has about 5 or 6 ACTUALLY GOOD ONES, unlike some other books I've read that has about 15-20 different sex scenes that tend to go on freaking forever and by the next sex scene your like "WTF people! NO MORE!"This book was great and actually spaced these scenes out good enough for them to actually be interesting each time. Another good thing about this book was that Joselyn, the main character, is defiantly damaged but not in a way that is like um why does he still want her. She is more like damaged like guarded and not quick to fall for the first millionaire guy she sees. Which I like about her! This book also has other great characters included and even though Joselyn is damaged she has more friends than some of the other characters in books have which i also enjoyed because there was never a chance to get bored with Joselyn. And thats it!!! Definatly read this one!
4 1/2 STARS!
Loved ON DUBLIN STREET, why did I wait so long to read it? Hello, sexy, possessive Scottish hero, just what I love! :)
The narrator's Scottish voices were great. But the voice used for Joss annoyed me at times, and I had a hard time telling the difference between things she said out loud and things she mused about in her head. Still, Paula Costello did a good job with the book, and I was happy to listen while walking the dogs.
I'll admit that Joss made me frustrated at times, as she struggled to come to terms with her past and issues, but I couldn't stay mad at her completely, as I realize she went through a lot. I'm just glad that she did let Ellie, and then Braden, in to her life. And Braden -- well, he was great, if at times very intense. No complaints there, though!
In fact, I think it's time for me to pack up and move to Scotland, find my own Braden. :) I'll definitely be coming back for the rest of this series, I enjoyed the rest of Braden's family and the secondary characters.
Mother of teenaged bear, Wife to chaos, Warrior
This was just okay. The story was predictable and WAY to far fetched. The characters are well done with real personalities which made it fun.
