Absolutely, the accent that the narrator does is priceless, and I could not get that if I was just reading the print copy.
(I do not want to spoil the story)
This book is a wonderful, powerful book. It proves that sometimes you need to shut up and let love happen. Ellie was most definitely my favorite character, she makes the need, she may seem one way, but don't let the cover fool you!
On Dublin Street has been on my TBR for far too long. Thanks to Loupe from Hot Listens I was gifted this audio after winning the 2nd quarter audiobook challenge. :-)
When I first started listening to this story I was hoping it wasn’t like all the other contemporary romance/new adult books out there. There are some similarities to other popular books in this genre but far more differences. My favorite difference is the setting, a this book took place in Scotland.
Jocelyn aka Joss is nothing like any other heroine I’ve read before. She’s smart, funny, sarcastic, creative (she’s an aspiring writer) but she also has a dark side. Joss has been through a lot of tragedy in her short twenty something years and struggles to deal with it all. Joss’ way of “dealing” with it all is ignoring it all and detaching herself from others. I like that she’s not perfect, but kind of dysfunctional. Throughout the book the readers are able to witness her evolution over time, which I enjoyed.
Braden, THANK GOD, is not your typical womanizing rich man in this book although he is all those things. Braden is a VERY successful business man with plenty of money but the story doesn’t focus on that. He doesn’t go around flaunting his money, taking lavish trips, but is found working late nights a lot of times. Braden had me right from the beginning with his flirtatious banter with Joss, I thought it was really cute. He’s perfect for Joss. He’s patient and understanding of her and her fears.
I loved the side characters! My favorite was Reanne, Joss’ best friend. She was dysfunctional, loved to call Joss on her shit and sarcastic….LOVE! She could also be found calling Joss a bitch at random times. LOL <3 Ellie was also pretty awesome. She was so sweet, trusting and caring all the time but could also be a hardcore badass when she needed to be.
I very much enjoyed this love story. I’m glad that their journey was filed with “real” shit, not fluff. It was not a quick easy whirlwind romance but one that flourished over time and allowed Braden and Joss to both grow as individuals and as a couple. I will definitely continue with this series.
Narration Note: Paula Costello’s performance was GREAT! Every character except Joss was spoken in a Scottish accent. The accent was RIGHT ON in my opinion. Who wouldn’t love a man with a Scottish accent? Paula did Scottish accent + sarcasm = AWESOME!
Yes I'd recommend this book. Loved the story and the narrator!
She just made the book! Loved her accent!
I've ran, walked my dog, rode the commuter train, painted a bedroom, and cleaned my room to this audiobook. Paula Costello is PERFECT for this book.
I am a busy sports mom listening to romance only. If the narrator is good and it has a decent plot, I will find it enjoyable.
I loved the change she experienced.
I loved Ellie, the roommate. She was sweet, but tough.
On Dublin Street has everything a good romance should have...believable characters...a story line that keeps you interested...awesome love scenes...a happy ending. The narrator was perfect especially considering all the different accents. I have an affinity for Scotland which only made the story more pleasurable. Well worth a credit.
Books books books
Yes because it's super hot
I felt in the beginning she was going to get on my nerves because she kind of sounded like a valley girl BUT! Then she kicked in with the accents and Joss became real,so she did a great job.
This book is super freaking HOTT! Did an all night marathon only slept 3 hrs thank goodness it was a weekend listen. Joss's character will get on your nerves but its worth listening to the whole book loved loved loved it.
Power, passion, commitment
The development of their relationship and commitment.
Almost. It did not suck me in to want to stay up all night, but I enjoyed the story and relationship.
So many books so little time - but Audible gives me the gift of multitasking - I can get those simple tasks done AND be up on great reads.
Some steamy sex.
VERY light compared to 50 Shades.
Scottish Accents! Dang, Braden Carmichael's accent did it for me.
Jocelyn's snarkiness is over the top. If she could have toned it down, this would be a 4 star performance.
If you are looking for a alpha jealous man with an accent & some very good sex scenes, this is a fun book
Wife, mother of 3 and lover all of all books! I've really become interested in the audio books since I have such a long commute. It's a wonderful way to pass the time!
Rarely do I find a book that was so hard to put down that I practically ignore my family! Every morning I got in the car to listen to it I was actually thrilled that I have a long commute. I'd pull up to work and hate to get out and stop the story. I'm not entirely sure why I was SO pulled in; but nonetheless I was. I loved all the characters, every single one of them. I loved the narrator's voice, I loved how she depicted Braden and Jocelyn. I just loved their labored romance and the intensity of their love. I'd probably have to say this is one of THE best audio books I've ever listened to. I'm now desperate to see if Samantha Young has any more books. I'd love to hear their story continued. The emotion in this book was perfect. The descriptions were spot on of how she felt...it was pretty much just INTENSE. That's the best word to describe it. I actually found myself laughing out loud, and even crying...not a great way to walk in to work!
I couldn't recommend this book any higher. If there were 10 stars it would get it. Great book, great narrator and the characters were done impeccably. Both content and delivery.
Loved it and now I'm so sad that it has ended. The good news is, since I've purchased it, I'll have it forever to read over and over!
