After reading reviews on this I was skeptical, but, as a Maya Banks fan I thought I'd give it a try. I'm really happy I did, although I completely understand why many reviewers had some negative comments. I too felt a little dirty initially--the whole May/December relationship, accompanied by Gabe's (male lead) aggressive demands of Mia (female lead)--but, by the end I was loving both of them and rooting for their relationship. This is a sexy listen, with interesting characters. If you like 50 Shades or anything along those lines, you'll likely enjoy Rush. The narrator is average, but, he does a better job in the second book.
This book is an awesome erotic fantasy escape! I found it funnily forward thinking, tender,
shocking, and sexy. I do recommend this book, and think others will find it enjoyable too. If you haven't already...check out MB's Exile, it is along a similar line.
I just have to say, I love MB's books. The main reason though is not the bed sport but the way the woman are taken care of and the respect given to them. It is a nice dream space to go to when times are down for me, being single again after 23 years, these books satisfy the longing to dream of someone coming to the rescue. The more of her books the more I want to read more of her books so I can dream. I am not into BDSM or MMMF in my life but that aside, I have found she makes those relationships very loving and caring. Love this series!
Will do anything for books!
Dont know why there are so many neg reviews. I loved the story. As
with all of Mayas books this is not for the faint of heart. Adam Paul did well narrating. He got a lot of flack for shades of grey and now this i dont see or rather hear the problem.
I really wish Jim Frangione had been the narrator. His "Vicious" really would have been the voice for this story. That's all I can add to any of the reviews that are already out there.
HATE spoilers! Enjoy HOT, sexy books. No vampires, paranormal, teens 4 me. Running out this type Audible-so on2 lighter romance/mystery :-(
Yes, it is a hot, sexy read.
It isn't more than it claims to be. This is not a deep, challenging listen. The characters are not complex...if you are looking for a superficial read that is mostly about sex-this is it.
He was a bit stoic. There wasn't a lot of feeling behind his character portrayal.
The scene in Paris...it was troubling & shows a realistic depiction of a poor choice by the dominant character getting out of control. Too often in these type of stories it seems there are no errors on the part of the strong male characters.
This scene shows the consequences and fall out (the female is unrealistically forgiving-in my opinion) that continues in the aftermath.
NOTE: Strong language and explicit sex
Tell us about yourself!
After reading other reviewer's comments, I decided to gamble on the purchase since it was under ten dollars! Overall, I didn't think it was a bad purchase for the price.
Other reviewers found the sex to be degrading; I actually thought it was pretty gritty and representative of what BDSM might be to some individuals. The female character found it arousing, so even if it wasn't what some people would appreciate, it was part of the story's development.
Other reviewers didn't believe the male character's emotional development; I saw glimpses of the changes throughout the book, so that also seemed to work within the story.
Some reviewers didn't like the narrator; I thought he did a fine job and I was able to differentiate the characters.
As I listened I realized...I didn't empathize with the main characters and didn't like them very much! Usually there is something appealing about one or both of the characters and their flaws make them more human; however, in this book I found Gabe to be someone who "talked a good game" but didn't behave very well. I didn't find him to be likable and didn't warm up to Mia.
I wouldn't have used a credit for the book and a potential reader should be aware this is a grittier, edgier lust/love story.
I was so into the characters that I forgot it was a man reading!!!Adam Paul is an awesome reader and performer!!! Not to mention the fact that Maya Banks can spin an awesome tale. This book shows how even when you try to run from destiny it sends you right back to where you belong!!! And the love scenes hot hot hot!!
Adam Paul is my FAVORITE narrator! I wish he had more books he has done. He is so very talented. Yeah, Adam Paul is all that...
