"Can you say "control Freak!""
I read book 3 before I read this book(book 1). If I had read this book first, I would not have read any of the rest of this trilogy. In this story, the male love interest, Gabe, does everything we are warned about watching out for in someone we, or our friends, daughters, or any women are warned to watch out for. I had a really icky feeling in my stomach thru most of this book. I don't care how much a woman thinks she loves a man. No one should ever think its ok for a man to treat her like Gabe treated Mia thru 80 % of this book. I would personally, never have been able to look at myself in the mirror if I had allowed someone to treat me this way. And what is it with rectal sex? Would a straight man think it arousing to have to walk around with a plug stuck up their butt while they were at work? I just don't get it! All I can think about during those segments of the story is how un-hygienic this is and all the medical issues that can happen. Most of the treatment of Mia by Gabe would make alarm bells go off in the minds of most women. I found it unbelievable that any woman would sign a contract such as the one that Gabe supposedly insisted all his women sign! Maya Banks books usually portray strong women but boy this one really missed the mark.
"generally I like maya banks"
I generally like maya banks highlander series so I thought I would try this one as well. I found this book disturbing and downright uncomfortable in part. While the characters are likeable by the end there are parts where you almost feel like you need a shower to wash off the images that are described. While this book is touted as the next "fifty shades" what is missing here are the reasons for the character's actions.
That said based on the highlander series I did give maya another try
"Narrator..sooooo not sexy"
I love Maya Banks, but didn't feel Adam Paul did the story justice. It sounded rushed and cheesy at times. Not sexy at all.
"enjoyed it !!"
yes i would because i liked the story line and kept me wanting to listen to see what happen next
mia , i really liked how she was written she seemed like a real person and how a woman would act if it were a true story , she was relatable i think
ok , ok , ok lol didn't mind his performance
the moment where gab didn't stick up for mia when case and ash walk in and let mia walk away , i like how mia handled herself in that moment
"Could not finish, it was total trash."
Not anytime soon if ever.
Gabe is such a mean jerk and Mia is an idiot. This is not a romance, it is disgusting, the stuff nightmares are made of. I read everything but this one just angered me and I could only listen to about a third of it. It's rare that I don't stick with a story but this is trash.
I really did not have a problem with him but I suppose it was hard for me to seperate him from the horrible story.
Not enough space to list but seriously....I don't understand why some people loved it.
I hate writing such a negative review. I usually won't comment but this one angered me enough that I wanted to let others know that it is just plain awful and not a romance by any means. DON'T BUY.
"Good Start for New Trilogy"
Good start to a new trilogy. I kind of expected more though. I wish the critics would quit saying if you like 'Fifty Shades then you'll love this", because this book just doesn't add up to Fifty Shade similarity to me. Don't get me wrong here. Fifty Shades is awesome and Maya Banks is awesome too, but this book is nothing like Fifty. Sorry! Yes there is a little BDSM but not on the Fifty level, so if you’re hoping for that then this is not the book for you. Go with the Crossfire Series instead, by Sylvia Day.
Ok...jumping off the bandwagon now... Breathless is going to be a great series, about billionaire hotel owners. I can't wait for Jace and Ash story... they got some kink in them, I wonder how are they going to separate the kink..??? It seems to me, that they like a little ménage a tois! Lol... Anyway, this book is about Jace’s sister Mia and his other best friend Gabe. Great love story. I love how Mia is a very strong female lead and not a push over at all, which you don't see very often, in these contemporary romance novels. Maya Banks always write her female leads right though. Great story... Loved it... Not a four or five for me... but decent. Ya know... I actually like Maya's Highlander series better... still waiting on the next Montgomery Book... LOL, who is with me...?
I would wait for the credit; but if you are a big Banks fan, then go ahead and buy, you won't be disappointed.
I was shock to see a male narrator for this series. This was my first time listening to Paul and he did a great job. Nothing to complain about, but nothing to rave about either. Just great ya know. A male narrator is unusual for a Banks book, but so is this series... it was written mostly from the male POV... so, I see why the male narrator was use.
"WORST PERFORMANCE!!!"
Yes, the narrarator, he couldnt act and was absolutely awful. On scences that would usually be intense or where Gab would act gruff or sensual, he never changed his voice or acted it out. It was awful. The book was ok, not Maya's best but was good.
I would but only to read themselves not thru audible.
AWFUL!!! I dont understand how they passed this, had Maya Banks not put the emotions basically written you would never have known what the characters were supposed to be feeling. Worst performance, maybe i would have rated this higher had there been emotion with it.
I will make sure not to listen to anything else where he is the narrartor
More story about them and less sex, it would be a few minutes and they would have more sex. Dominance and submission/BDSM is way more than just the sex and that was what Maya focused on the most. Had there been more about that and the enjoyment someone giving their submission it would have been better.
"Did NOT finish"
I might read the next books in the series but the main male character just ruined this one for me.
This book did not have any redeeming qualities with the exception of introducing the other males for the rest of the series.
This was an awful story. I could not make myself listen any more past halfway. What a waste of a credit!
"Rush is breathless...and HOT"
This book is detailed, graphic, and yes articulate about sex in general….but it also has a nice plot! There is a difference between graphic details for the sake of graphic details and graphic details that further a story…and if you don’t like graphic sex in books then don’t get this one. If you do like your books on the naughty graphic side of life this is for you! I have written the word graphic SIX times now…and inevitably there will be the idiot that gets the book and gives it a low rating because it was….yup, you guessed it….graphic…you have been warned!
The narration was great, the feminine lead was strong, yet submissive, and it reminded me of the Sweet Series in how you could really get into the mindset of the characters. Can’t wait for book two, thanks for another great one Maya!
