I think that this is a book written by a woman for women. Maybe I am too old to appreciate it. The main character does not ring true to me. She is a beautiful, rich police lieutenant married to a handsome, wealthy man and all she does is complain. Ugh! Not believable.
Write her main character more realistically. I can't really see much futuristic about this novel written about the future--they call watches wrist units and computers units--other than that, which just seems annoying, I don't know what is so futuristic.
She wasn't my favorite reader, although she did many of the characters very well.
I liked the scenes with Dallas and her husband--if only she didn't always seem so put out.
The story was interesting, but all of the complaining by Eve Dallas got in the way.
Look upward and see the wonders I've seen
I would love a new series from J.D. Robb/Nora Roberts. I think she is a great writer, but I'm not a fan of this series any longer.
I cannot stand Eve Dallas. I think her character is the worst example of police entitlement. No rules apply to her like comman courtesy or politeness because she's a cop! I am so tired of her back story and that's why we have to cut her some slack. I cannot stand the Eve/Roarke scenes because they feel so unbelievable and contrived. I kept reading the series because I liked all of the other characters, Peabody, Sommerset, MacNab, Mavis and Dr. Mira. Eve is just so unlikable, abrasive and arrogant. I have family members who were police lieutenants and a few were homicide and I'm embarrased by her actions and the way she talks to people. In a word, she's a bitch.
The voices. All the woman have two tones, stupid and even more stupid.
I always enjoy the scenes with Peabody, but there wasn't enough of the other characters. Too much Eve as far as I'm concerned.
I've read every Nora Roberts & JD Robb book, and I'd pre-ordered this one. It was NOT good. It was painful to sit through. What happened Nora? I'm returning it. The narrator did what she could with weak material.
Yes, since I love all her other books.
Not as long as Susan Ericksen was the narrator.
The narrator made the voice of detective Peabody sound like she was stupid or mentally challenged! She also made the voices of other female characters sound like they were idiots as well. The book was also way too drawn out! Couldn't wait until it was over.
I always relisten to books in a series to get refocused on the timeline before the next one coming out.
Dallas & Rourke are growing more & more comfortable with their relationship & making things work together. I'm so glad that they can skip the arguments as to how involved Rourke should or should not be in the investigations. Also he realises that she must do things on her own without him hovering. It is a very comfortable fit now, yet without feeling like something is missing.
The very end! (I won't spoil it by telling you why ;p)
Susan Ericksen = brilliant. She IS this series and all its characters.
J.D. Robb = brilliant. I love everything she writes under this pseudonym, HOWEVER, this was, by far, my least favorite of all of her books. It felt a little bit empty -- like she wasn't really into it this time and was just plodding along 'cause she had to. Please keep in mind that I am comparing her to herself and this did not resonate like all the others.
Yes - the entire series!
I like them all, but I think Peabody is my favorite! Her background is so complex, plus the way the character is developing just charms the listener.
Susan Ericksen is one of my favorite narrators. Her interpretation of the characters in this series, though, is exceptional.
Nothing extreme, just didn't want to put it down.
Great series by a prolific and talented author whose books I always anticipate and buy.
I am an Rn who drives about 1 hour each way to work and Audible has been a life saver. I love mysteries and romance stories. Big fan of Sue Grafton JD Robb and Denise Swanson
I hate Nora Robert's book but count the days till JD Robb's next book comes out. I love the reader Susan Erickson makes every voice a distinct personality and the books are never boring. However I miss the back story what is going on with Eve and her friends. The last few books have been all about the story and no back story Lets get back to that please JD. No matter what I am still a devoted fan
As always can not help but love the characters
Plot was also good
Excellent reader as always
Yes it`s always better the second time.
Everything. I have yet to guess who did it.
Thats a hard one. I love every book by J.D. Robb and the narrater is wonderfull.
I would make a series.
