If you like the Bachelor Party movies, you might like this book. The book is absolutely silly with the flat, stereotyped characters stumbling from one hackneyed situation to another. If this is the best Dave Barry can come up with after 10 years, he needs to rethink his calling.
He should also rethink narrating his own audiobooks. His performance if somewhere between lousy and just OK.
I was looking for light fare to transition between books, but this certainly wasn't it. It's light, but not particularly amusing.
I love the way Dave narrates. It's always done tongue in cheek..
I've listened to all of Daves novels and most of his other books as well. To me, this is clearly the best.
Don't wait so long between books dave!
I'm a big fan of Dave's, and this did not disappoint. Nutty plot, nutty characters, lots and lots of out-loud laughs.
Dave Barry is a good, funny writer. This piece of lightweight slapstick fantasy is clearly a "sequel" to "Big Trouble" written in hopes of another movie.
I was surprised to learn that Dave Barry has written novels. I've enjoyed his humorous essays, and it took me a little while to wrap my head around the idea of his being a novelist. But then when my mom recommended him and called him reminiscent of early Hiaasen, I had to check it out.
The comparison is apt.
The premise of the story is bachelor party drunken shenanigans, where one thing after another goes wrong. It felt like a familiar tale, and I thought I knew where things were going. But there were plenty of fun surprises along the way.
I usually enjoy author narration in memoirs, and Dave Barry did a fine job with this reading. But I think actor narration may have enhanced the recording.
I love forward to another Dave Barry adventure.
As with any Dave Barry novel, this one kept me laughing. While there's a chance that the characters and events all come strictly from Barry's vivid imagination, sometimes I believe that South Florida really is this insane. Check out this book if you need a laugh, are planning a Florida vacation, or are getting married soon. Okay, so maybe this book will not be such a great idea if you're doing the last two, but you'll enjoy it for the first reason
I found this thoroughly enjoyable. With shades of The Hangover and Weekend at Bernies, this book is crazy yet believable. Men can get themselves into so much trouble! Highly recommend.
