Someone whose favorite genre is romance might enjoy this more than I did.
I couldn't get into the story because of the narrator.
The inflections in her voice - that character voices she tried to change - her accent - the sing-songy tone.... It was so awful that I couldn't even finish the book.
I don't know - I didn't get far enough into it to make that call.
I love the story of the friends and how she falls in love with her husband.
I loved this book. I had not read a medieval romance in a while and could not put this book down. Definitely worth the credit and compelled me to get the next book in the series. I will definitely listen to this one again. Strongly recommend.
While I believe the writer was trying to explore and explain human motivations, the characters sometimes seemed bi-polar. The male characters zip between rage and kind understanding. And while the female characters have admirable and mature qualities, they giggle and talk like 12 years olds. This could be due more to the narrator than the writing. I think I may have really enjoyed this novel when I was 15, but it felt a bit like a waste of time as an adult.
The narrator was so annoying that I was unable to finish the story.
I don't know about the story. Coulndn't finish the book.
I have always like Garwood's books. Very sorry that I couldn't finish this one.
I'm not sure where to start. This story pales in comparison to most of the books in my Audible library. It was not so awful a book that I didn't finish it though.
*Shrug* as expected
I was inspired not to purchase another book by this author and happy I got this one on sale.
Tell us about yourself! I like clean romances and fantasy. The happily ever after is for me
yes, because I love her stories, I just wish she would not make scenes in the book, so sexually explicit. The story is good without the explicit details.
Very good ending. I am a sucker for a happy ending.
'The sexual scenes took up to much of the book.
A different narrator could have made it a 2-3 star
Not likely if her female characters are this weakly drawn and make characters such caricatures.
She needs to understand that male Scots do not all have emphysema and speak in a whispered falsetto. Oh, and she might want to study what a real brogue and burr sound like and use them consistently.
Julie Garwood writes cliches, and Susan Duerden butchers them.
I've always loved this book, but this version was hard to listen to. The narrator did a lousy job with the woman's voices, and they all sounded like they were 5 years old. I listened at 1.25 speed and it helped. The story is good enough to overlook any faults in narration.
Oh yes, great story line and amazing characters.
Yes, she did a great job with the voices and personalities.
OHGosh, I was driving during the wedding scene and almost had to pull over because I was laughing so much!!!
I recently started reading Julie Garwood's books and this one is by far my favorite!!!
