I love Maya Banks and her writing and I throughly enjoy the KGI series. My issue with this book was the narrator. I just couldn't listen to him. Every character's voice sounded like they were whiny country bumkins. These men are suppose to be big strong intelligent alpha males and the narrator's choice for their voices made them sound like dim witted hicks who couldn't find their way out of a paperbag. I loved the story but was very disappointed in the chi u ce of narrator.
The narrator shouldn't give up his day job because his characters' voices and accents were atrocious. Why take a strong female character in the series and turn her into a victim who has to be rescued? Is this the only way the author can build a relationship between two characters by breaking down the female lead into a weak and damaged character, seriously? I should have quit two books ago when they went all ESP.
A different narrator or just Adam Paul not trying to be such a hick. And don't get me wrong, I'm a proud country girl myself! But it was just too much, too high pitched, too blah.
Yes - I first heard him narrate When Day Breaks (my first KGI book). He was great, perfect in fact. So maybe he needed time to work out the issues.
I still Love this Series, this has honestly been one of the Best Series I've Bought. But this Narrator ruins the Audible experience
I have no idea why they would have stopped using Harry Berkeley, I wish with all that I have that they would have used him for all of the books, he was so amazing! This new Narrator is TERRIBLE his normal reading voice isn't terrible, but everytime he tries to speak as one of the men he Literally sounds Like Gomer Pyle. Having your lead alpha males sound Like an Aaron Neville song really kills the sex appeal, in fact it kills your ability to like the men in this book at all, I just want them to shut up, it takes away my love for all of these Characters.
I cried everytime the Narrator tried to talk for one of the Men
Please go Back to Harry Berkeley for any future Books!
NO!!!! The narrator has ruined this book!!! He made the Alpha males all sound weak.
This story had the potential to be very powerful but because of the awful narration it lacks the emotion that this story contains. I will READ the book and NEVER listen to another book from this narrator. Watch for the name, if he narrates a children's book or maybe an Elmer Fudd book then he's your narrator but romance, mystery and suspense novel then NO do not listen. You will regret it.
Awful!! Makes fun of southern people! The accents are terrible and the alpha males sound like weak girl!!! Very hard to like a strong male when this idiot makes them sound like cartoon characters.
The traumatic scene with PJ could have been very moving but again narrator just killed this book.
Would like to get my money back since I will not listen to any books by this narrator again and even the ones that I have waiting to listen too. This was a extreme waste of money because I just can't listen to this jackass!!
I Love Maya Banks KGI series! BUT..... this new narrator is horrible. I would recommend people read the books and not listen once you get to Shades of Gray. I was so looking forward to PJ's story and next Steeles story but i will NOT be listening to them that is for sure. There is no emotion when the narrator reads, all the voices sound the same and its hard to listen to, even for a short time. BRING HARRY BACK!!!
Say something about yourself!
Liked Cole and PJ
Thank goodness the heavy and hick southern accent was not a part of this book. The last book may me hesitate to listen to this one. Adam Paul would do better if he sticks to a light drawl if any and focus on the differences in the characters.
Preferred to break up over a couple of days.
I prefer one narrator for a series. Especially one that developed the sound of each character though out the series. Susan Ericksen does this the best with the In Death series by JD Robb.
Yes, this book was great. A little different from the other KGI stories, but the same concept.
I did not like him as much as the other man. But, I might listen to him with another book not this series
Yes and no. I always enjoy books by this author, but I will have to read them from now on.
The twists and turns in the relationship of two people who must find a way to both work and love together.
I am sure he would have been ok if he had started the series from the beginning. However, I just cannot get used to hearing Steel's voice in such a high pitch. It was like nails on a chalkboard!
No. Like all the KGI novels, I will enjoy updates in the books that follow.
These books are stand alone, but I would advise that next time there needs to be a change in narration for whatever reason, try to keep with the same type of voice at least. The southern accent does not make up for the change in pitch.
Love PJ & Cole's story - strong heroine. New narrator does HORRIBLE male voices. Everyone (regardless of geographical origin) has a southern accent and sounds constipated. Rio is the worst.
PJ is a strong heroine who saves herself.
Every male voice made me cringe.
