This is my first Review , and fairly so because i was SO DISAPPOINTED. I actually, like all of you, waited for this book impatiently for almost 6 months . After readin the first two in the series I had to label this as the best Zombie book since World War Z .
But then all of that fell apart, First off this book IS IMPOSSIBLE to follow , It jumps from place to place , without changing chapters . I was so lost about what was going on . That I asked for my money back .
I dont know what J.L Bourne was doing and why he decided to completely abandon something that worked so well , but I am pissed off , you made me us wait and now this book is no different then the other 2-3 stars around .
WHY WHY did you abandon a working Formula. ???
I don't know anyone that would
No it Hasn't
He handles the many voices well.
I didn't like how he departed from the original format, the ending was way too short and hurried. He didn't expand on Remote 6 (was really hoping he would do that). I was really disappointed in this book.
I'd listened to the previous 2 instalments and was really looking forward to hearing this final piece. Admittedly I did fall into the habit from listening to the first 2 if hearing a day by day diary from Kil however because the characters were getting to be many the writer accommodated this very well. Loved it, if you've read the first 2, then by all means purchase this final instalment.
Some of the technical data & comm's talk was way over my head but I realise this is realistic and needed for authenticity and many out there will identify with it.
Too many to say here..,
Yes!! I'm on the road doing long trips and this kept me really focused. When I wasn't doing long trips, I was hanging out, couldn't wait to go for a drive to listen to the next exciting chapter! My 17 year older daughter loved it also!
I just hope and wish J L Bourne has some more of this excitement to unleash! I quite enjoyed listening to all 3 instalments! Please keep them coming?
What happened ?!
The first half of this book was almost BORING . With all those new characters in play and nobody gives a crap about them (at least, I didn't).
I did not expect (at all) the cartoonish villain , the only thing missing there was the big cat !
And....that ending, so rushed and almost alien to the trilogy...
I expected better
Good but different
I couldn't tell whether this was the same narrator from the previous 2 books, his voice sounded way off from previous work.
I LOVED the first two books in the series, I enjoyed them more for the "Journal" approach the author used to tell his story. The third book, though very good to read, was told in more of "Play" format, where the narrator uses to different voices for the different characters. I did love the book and the narrator but this book felt as if if was written by a different author and read by jay snyder's little brother. Good book, great series, just not what I was expecting or hoping for. The author had a great recipe for a novel and jus went another route on this one
The story was better than many reviewers will have you believe. I honestly believe it was a solid 4.0 story with a 3.0 ending. Again, there was nothing wrong with the story. The ending was not bad at all, it just could have been expanded on. Sort of like a cliffs notes ending.
The different style was no big deal because there was quality material.
I recommend this to readers of the first two books in the series. Even without the first two books I think this would be a good listen.
I had been looking forward to this book for over a year now and was extremely excited to get it. That said it diddnt quite live up to expectation. After thouroughly enjoying the first two books, which are by far my two favorite zombie fiction novels and i have read quite a few, it just wasnt as good. If u have already read the first two i defintetly stll recomend this one. it does continue the story all though it is written in a differen style instead of following just the protagonist thru his journal their are multiple viewpoints which has some positives and negatives. The ending definetly left much to be desired it seemed very rushed and ended too early in my opinion. I do hope there will be another addition to this series i would still be interested in seeing where it could go.
so, this is the 3rd instalment in what is probably my favorite zombie series. hard to say but this one is not the best. different style, diffent feel, forced outcomes. I dont know you just fall out of love with the characters. The biggest reason I love zombie books is being able to put myself/family in the situations. this one, does not do that. but, that being said, its still better than half the zombie bookes out there. and the frist two are still top of the list.
Most definatly! This is an excellent story, not easy to put down. It departs from the previous 2 books in the series but not going to the main characters journal, but this is ok and needed to move the plot along. You will not be bored!
Hard to choose only one, but Hourglass's final mission inside China ranks up there!
