Who doesn't enjoy being transported to another world, and traveling on an unforgettable adventure? Thank you audio books! Happy dance <3
I am totally absorbed in this story and completely taken with the talent of the author. Clearly Mary knows her characters better then I think they even now themselves (if that makes sense). It is absolutely enthralling to get sucked into such talent. Lol, not to mention I was looking for something like this to listen to thanks to anime withdrawal. I can feel the manga influences throughout the series, even if that was not the intent. For me it is like hearing it instead of seeing it. Any who, it's a very well done series.
But my issue is with the performance. The narrator has a very pleasantly toned voice IMHO. And I liked Logan's voice a lot, that wasn't any issue. No, it was the way it was read. 1) It was so monotoned at times I could have been listening to the male equivalent of Siri. 2) When there was any inflections at all it was not an appropriate time for them to be used. This made it VERY difficult to follow along. - Now I'm pretty easy going and this in its self would not give the actor 1 (I wish it was zero stars) star, however there where some MAJOR flaws - 3) He repeated sentences that he made errors in and they where not cut from the book! Many of them. 4) He repeatedly said words wrong. Completely changing the meaning of the sentence in the process. - This got me thinking what else was he getting wrong. So I got onto whispersync and followed along with immersion reading - 5) He must have had a different book then me. That's all I can think. 6) He reworded whole sentences. Substituting, switching, and replacing words, names, and phrases. 7) He SKIPPED sentences. 8) He SKIPPED a whole paragraph. And this is just the part of the book I followed along with. This book is unabridged (I checked, repeatedly). In retrospect if there is a typo in the book then sayings something other then what is written to improve the telling of the story, I can forgive. But this is horrible.
The verdict- Great story. Horrible performance.
I like the story. Mary Calmes is a terrific writer. It's just sad when the narrator doesn't do the story justice. I didn't like the narrator of the first book but at least he gave the characters different voices, as much as I didn't like them. But this narrator didn't give any of them different voices except maybe the women. I was confused a lot of who was talking. I've noticed this with all of Jeff Gelder's narrations.
Enjoy Mary Calmes book and will buy book 3 in series despite narrator; he didn't take time to listen to first book in series to get pronunciation correct and he clearly lost his place a couple of times because he repeats the same line.
didnt have a favorite character - liked the interaction between the characters
no, his reading style lacks emotion
this tape should have been edited before it was put on the market
No, read it instead of listen to it because of the narrator
I love this series, falling for all the characters. Starting to fall for Domen Thorne
The pit scenes,
Say something about yourself!
Definitely will listen again because it is a beautiful story and the setting is wonderful. I loved the way that the music set off the setting and the premise of the story. Jeff Gelder was a wonderful narrator, though, at first I was biased against him as I loved Sean's narration of the first book. After listening for awhile I began to fall for Jeff's narration and I really enjoyed his reading.
Of course, you compare the book to Change of Heart and the series because this is what the story is apart of.
As I said earlier Jeff's performance is wonderful, after some early reservations I really took to his reading.
I don't know what I'd name it, I like the title it has.
I'm hoping that soon I'll see 'Honored Vow' and 'Crucible of Fate' the next 2 books in the 'Change of Heart series' on audible.
yes, because the story was compelling
This is not my first book with Jeff Gelder so I knew what to expect. A listener should be forewarned, Jeff has a GREAT voice for Logan. It's warm and sexy and done perfectly, however, he cannot do Jin, which is a problem since it's a first person book and Jin is the one telling the story. He just can't do Jin to save his life. I'm not sure why that is. Other characters come out perfect, but for whatever reason, Jin comes out flat. For Logan's voice alone though, I'd recommend this story. if you can accept it for what it is, then I think it's a very enjoyable listen. Highly recommended because it's a cute story. I think Jeff did a better job than Sean.
! Love to listen to jazz, r/b and listen to erotic or a good paranormal sci-fi and " good narration is everything"
It was a one night listen. Please put the other two books in this series on audible! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
