Marsters is back, thankfully, and Cold Days was one of the better additions to the series. It's hard to review these books individually since they all have a formula that just works. But I do have favorites....starting obviously with Changes....then grave peril and dead beat probably tie for second....and I would fit cold days in there at number 3.
Anyways, if you already a fan then this review is pointless, if you haven't read any dresden files yet then you are a horrible person.
The plot of the Dresden files just gets better can't wait for the next book!!!
Dresden's story continues in a really relevant and poignant (and exciting!) way. I don't want to give away any spoilers in this section, but this series is really just one amazing story that comes in volumes, this new addition being no exception. Butcher keeps giving more detail and insight into the amazing world he has constructed and it only enriches the story.
Dresden's Birthday Party - Court Intrigue isn't even a major theme (well....), but wow! it could be.
Some say the world will end in fire, some say in ice....
If you are new to the Dresden Files, go listen to Storm Front (http://www.audible.com/pd?asin=B002V8KYMI) asap.
If you and Dresden have met before... well, you already know, don't you?
I have all of the Dresden files books, on various media, this one is my second favorite. (Dead Beat is the first.) It is just what the series needed. Loved this book from start to finish. Oh, Marsters also rocked the reading.
Thank goodness Dresden has his body back and his friends behind him. Cold Days is a return to action. Dresden is never better than when he has his friends to give him grief and bad guys to stomp.
James Marsters IS Dresden. I can't listen to anyone else narrate these books; even when reading them, I hear his voice. He has a great grasp of all the characters and brings them all to life, but Dresden is the key.
A Fun Stroy
Good characters and a dramatic reading.
If you made it this far in the seris you'll love this book.
hard biting fiction
Harry Dresden - he struggles to do the right thing
Harry Dresden - the voice is just what I feel that Harry would sound like
Was not sure where the author could go after Harry 'died' and then came back as the winter knight to an evil queen of fairy. But Jim Butcher delivered again and as the story moved on we find that evil is not always what we think that it is.
In the top 70 percent.
The Lead Character, Harry
The Big Battle on the Island
Several, Harry is a very introspective character. Deciding what is the right thing to do when all paths seem to lead to darkness, is compelling.
You should read some of the earlier books in the Dresden Files first. They will help you understand underlying themes.
Dark, fun, exciting
Well most of the Dresden files lol, but seriously... There is no comparison to these books. Butcher is in a league of his own.
Any scene with Thomas or Mab, and I love Dresden's "Die Hard" moments when he's getting the snot kicked out of him.
Inside my head!
Read all of Butcher's work, great stuff.
Yes - two words: James Marsters. In 2 more words: Jim Butcher.
I have listened to all the dresden files as audio books. I almost tossed my cookies when they used someone else for last book. It was awful by comparison.
There are new twists that garnered an OMG, but those are spoilers. There are points where Dresden is grappling with some really deep human issues that were surprisingly well done. Always shocks me when Butcher puts some meaningful heart and soul in a novel about a bad-ass wizard taking care of business.
Overall, the lore of the world and some of the mysteries are nicely laid out with answers, but more questions, and Dresden is still awesome and living life cranked to 11 with little breathing room.
