love this series. glad i heard about the author on an NPR interview. jack is a great hero hope he actually gets to keep the girl in one of these books
This is the first book I have experienced by Lee Child. I loved the way he unfolded the story and how he takes us through the way the characters put things together. I also enjoyed the narration of Jonathan McClain very much. Unfortunately for me, I am having a rough time listening to the other Reacher novels that are not read by McClain. I think his voice is Jack Reacher for me! Guess I have some reading to do!
This was the first Jack Reacher book I've purchased. I like Preston and Child's Pendergast series but this was far from the type of storytelling found in the Pendergast series. This story was frustrating, in that the main character keeps getting kidnapped/imprisoned/tied up/captured, etc. over and over again by the same group of bad guys.
Probably not another Reacher book, no.
The narrator was largely pretty good.
First audible book I couldn't wait to get back too. Narrator does a fantastic job telling this exciting story. didn't hesitate to buy book three right afterwards.
I can't express how much better Jonathan McClain is as a narrator for the Jack Reacher stories. For one huge reason. No matter how strong Lee Child writes them, Dick Hill makes all the female characters sound weak, pathetic, tremulous and usually on the verge of tears or hysteria. These thrillers need a more versatile voice than Hill's.
Great book like most other jack reached novels. The narrator however is awful. Flat un-expressive voice, choppy uneven cadence. I find myself losing track of what is going on because the performance distances you rather than drawing you in.
I enjoy spy, military, psychological, technical and fiction based in reality and science. I really value intimate, thorough writing.
Absolutely. It does a really good job of keeping you interested. I really enjoyed the tactical aspect of it from all parties in the book. Gathering and acting on information.
Reacher's thought process. I love watching him calculate solutions to overwhelming problems.
There's a scene where someone has evil ugly intent for someone and ends up paying for it. I loved it. I was cheering.
Whenever Reacher is upset. He is so cool, calculating (and excited by violence) and those qualities are written into him very well. So when he breaks or shows humanity i really feel it.
Not as good as the first. The first person perspective of the first book REALLY aided in the feel because it was more personal. But still. Excellent thriller. It just got crazier and bigger and more clutch/tense. Tight til the last few moments. Excellent.
