"Fascinating book, well written and conceived"
This compelling book had me looking forward to listening to it on my way to work. The book deals with the issues and politics around climate change on a personal level. Particularly interesting were how levels of income and education made a big difference to how the issues were dealt with in the book. This was insightful and eye opening. The narration was perfect as well, fitting nicely with the tone and pace of the book.
This book was more than i expected. Insight into a part of the country and lifestyle that would be difficult to understand or relate to unless you grew up there or read this book by Kingsolver.
"Stick with it and you won't be disappointed"
Having read The Poisonwood Bible some considerable time ago and loved the wonderful writing style I initially struggled with this book though I loved the narration by the author. However if you accept it's a slow burn its a lovely book which reminded me how wondrous nature and science are and of course how we have influenced the ecology of the planet. Don't be put off by this though as the main character is engaging and down to earth and its fundamentally a novel not a science lesson. Altogether a highly recommended listen.
"Gripping, challenging book"
I should start by saying that I love Barbara Kingsolver's work. And this book more than meets the standard she has set. It explores huge issues of global warning from the direct experience of twenty-something mother of two, unhappily married and lost for direction in rural God-fearing America. It is a beautifully written, compelling book, and I loved hearing the author read her own words to me.
Although this story 'Flight Behaviour' by Barbara Kingsolver was set in the back-blocks of America and I live in Melbourne, Australia, this story of the repercussions of global warming/climate change are no less relevant. Barbara Kingsolver has long been a favourite writer of mine ever since I read 'The Poisonwood Bible'. This, her latest novel does not disappoint. I highly recommend it.
This author has a lovely turn of phrase. Her writing is just ... smooth & .... well there you go, that's why she's the author and I'm not. But I loved this book. The story, the writing, the characters & the reading. Buy it.
"Not That Exciting, but Quite Sweet"
This book came very highly reviewed and nominated for prizes, it is quite a sweet story about how an event can change one persons life but it drags on a bit, would recommend more to women than men.
"A stunningly beautiful and thought provoking read"
I am a real fan of Barbara Kingsolver and have read all of her books. Flight Behaviour was even more enjoyable than the earlier books. Poetically written yet gripping story telling. Thought provoking and realistic. A wonderful balance of every day life and the bigger picture in the form of our world and how it is changing.
