I don't know. Have not read the print version.
It felt like I was listening to a movie instead of a book narration. The different voices, the music and the sound effects added a lot of dimension to the story. It was a great experience!
The plot was a little slow at first, but I got into it fairly quickly. I think Zahn was trying to create a star wars / Ocean 11 story here (with a slightly different take), and it worked out quite well (Could this be one of the potential movie plots?). Zahn has always been a great author for me so I did not hesitate on getting this one and it certainly did not let me down. Love the character set, even if there wasn't a ton of character development, it was more of an action novel than something more deep and of course Marc Thompson does a flawless job with the narration. I was very impressed with how he did his voice of Winter IDENTICAL to the voice he did with her in the Thrawn Trilogy. That speaks of how professional and talented he is. There were a lot of voices in this book to create and he made them all very unique and easy to figure out who is saying what. Truly an amazing narrator. Keep them coming Marc!
The voice acting was amazing... Lando, Han were dead on. Story was good too!
This quality of this audio performance was the best I have experienced in an audio book. There was background music and special effects threw the entire book. It actually scared me the first time I started up the book when I was walking my dog at night. There was a part with blaster fire and I really thought something had exploded somewhere. My dog just looked at me like I was crazy.
Listening on the run : )
This book was really great and I was sad to reach the ending, as great as it was. The beginning was somewhat slow and it was a little difficult to keep all the characters straight at first but they eventually settled into place. The narrator and sound effects where excellent and I don't think a book of this sort could get much better than this one!
The scoundrels always seem to be jumping from one scheme to another, barely keeping up with costs and ahead of the law. A once in a lifetime opportunity for a score causes Han and Chewie to pull together the best of the worst they can find to pull it off. The group has to break into an impenetrable fortress and get out with their lives and the loot! Things go right and things go awry, so they've got to play it loose. Twists and turns abound with a well known helment sneaking in at the end.
A great listen!
I was disappointed. Han Solo is the character that allowed me to fall in love with Star Wars. The Brian Daley novels were fun and exciting reads. The stories were well plotted, characters were interesting, and they gave me a sense of the world beyond the films.
I had high hopes for this book. Sadly, I just never cared about anything that was happening. The idea of a heist story is great. The assembled cast of characters was promising, and the reveal about a certain character was fun but the story was poorly paced, the action was lack luster, and there was no arc for any other characters. While the characters had some great chemistry, there were few moments when they got to spark. Chewbacca and Han are woefully underutilized, and they are the main draw.
If you want to hang with some real scoundrels, check out Brian Daley's Han Solo novels or watch Michael Mann's "Heat."
Zahn some how writes great books that happen to be Star Wars books. But he is also able to capture the Star Wars feel like it could be on the screen. Voices were great as well. Some of the sound effects could be Jaring but by the second or third chapter they became part of the backdrop. Fun book I would buy more.
To me it seemed like Oceans 11 meets Star Wars.
Both Han and Lando are spot on.
Its Star Wars. Great little space romp.
More Unabridged Zahn would be great.
Great to revisit classic characters!
Fun to see a heist story carried out in the Star Wars universe.
The characters, sound effects, and story line was high quality and intriguing. Felt like you was in the same room as the action. Sound effects were an added bonus to the book and did not over power the storyline. Very easy listen. The voices for Han and Landu were spot on. The twist at the end...well, lets just say-OMG-love it:) Cannot wait to listen to more.
Although, Marc did a spot on Han-I loved the smoothness and swagger of Landu voice.
The aha twist at the end with Injur
