The narrator's subtle performance enhances this riveting story.
If you enjoy war time tales and mysteries that keep you guessing, you can't miss.
The writing is smooth, although the frequent shifts between decades and characters keep the reader engaged.
I am not compelled to rave about this book to anyone; it's a good story, but not a great one. The story, I feel, is much longer than it needed to be. There were other reviewers that mentioned that there was a lot of "smoking" in the book. Well, they were right! But the story line seemed to glorify smoking, which is what bothered me. It was just not necessary or pleasant to have it in the story so much. The narrator has a very pleasing voice.
No I would not. It's not the kind of story that is a "stand out".
I can't think of a favorite scene.
Much Ado About Nothing
This was such a wonderful story. I want to hear more now by this author. I'll be looking forward to my next listen.
The narrator had the most pleasing voice, and did such a marvellous job of bringing this amazing story to life. I just wanted to the story to go on and on.
The surprise ending
She brings the characters to life and her clear soothing voice makes every detail important. I find my mind can wander when listening to other stories, but her voice and the story itself kept me listening to every single word
Viviene was the most memorable character, but to say why would spoil the fun for other listeners
This has been one of the most enjoyable books I have listened to in a very long time
Absolutely. Kate Morton wrote another fantastic book with this one. I love the story!
I liked mostly that this one was about an old woman and her family and family secrets.
She brings the characters to life in a way that wouldn't happen if I had just read it.
I wouldn't rename it.
Can you guess?
I enjoyed Jimmy's character. He seemed so earnest and kind but could be a bad boy if he wanted to.
She brought the characters to life. Each one had their own distinct voice with different dialects and rythyms to their speech. At first it was a bit annoying as I am not British and it took a bit of getting used to but by chapter 2 she had me hooked.
I would not name it as it was an ideal Title. The 'Secret keeper" could have been so many of the people in the story.
I would read this book again. Thanks
Middle aged wife, mother, student and full time worker. I listen to books using my phone, especially when I drive/travel for work.
I liked the narration and the story kept me interested. A good look into the WWII era in London and the characters were intriguing.
