At first I thought this was just a 'sweet' little story, but Kate Morton just used that to set the stage for a book full of plot twists. I loved this book.
Absolutely. Kate Morton wrote another fantastic book with this one. I love the story!
I liked mostly that this one was about an old woman and her family and family secrets.
She brings the characters to life in a way that wouldn't happen if I had just read it.
I wouldn't rename it.
Can you guess?
I enjoyed Jimmy's character. He seemed so earnest and kind but could be a bad boy if he wanted to.
She brought the characters to life. Each one had their own distinct voice with different dialects and rythyms to their speech. At first it was a bit annoying as I am not British and it took a bit of getting used to but by chapter 2 she had me hooked.
I would not name it as it was an ideal Title. The 'Secret keeper" could have been so many of the people in the story.
I would read this book again. Thanks
Middle aged wife, mother, student and full time worker. I listen to books using my phone, especially when I drive/travel for work.
I liked the narration and the story kept me interested. A good look into the WWII era in London and the characters were intriguing.
I love Caroline Lee but I just couldn't get into the story. It seemed very slow and didn't keep my interest. I'm returning this one.
I loved the way it told the story in flashbacks, and kept you wondering about the secrets to be discovered.
I don't normally like narrators with British accents, but this was an exception. She did an excellent job. I wasn't overly impressed with her depiction of a few characters, especially the pompous ones. I particularly loved the voice of Dolly. Ms. Lee did a good job of conveying the characters' personalities by her rendition of their voices.
The elderly mother, in hopes she would share some of her wisdom....and secrets.
Professor at Federal University of Uberlândia (Brazil). I love romances and thrillers. Feel free to send me e-books suggestions!
Very intelligent plot, excellent narrator! I have been listening to a lot of books and there was a long time that I didn’t find a good one. It was my first Kate Morton book, I loved! I was really hooked in the plot, I suffered with some characters. The narrator in this book is wonderful and in my opinion made the book even better. Love, Love, Loooooved it! I haven’t finished this one and I have already bought all books available on audible.com, I hope the next ones will be very good also. I would be extremely happy if I receive suggestions of books like Kate Morton’s style.
Yes! The story carefully unfolds, pulling the listener in. The historic backdrop of WWII London adds drama to the mystery.
Dolly. She wanted terribly to be admired and to join a higher class. A dreamer who created her own reality, she wasn't malicious however her self absorption changed the lives of those around her.
It was believable. I've listed to books where the narrator seems to be trying too hard to create distinctive voices for characters. Listening to Caroline Lee I believed I was hearing the character not the narrator. I was lost in the story.
The Second Chance
Story about how war, life, love all mix to make a mystery that becomes life circumstances. Enjoyed listening to this book. Did not figure out the mystery until the last few chapters.
Retired evidently sounds better than disabled.. It's a knee thing. Bone on bone, baby. Not a good candidate for surgery (health issues)..
It seems to drag, but keeps you hooked hoping for a crescendo..... which doesn't happen.
Crappy, poorly imitated
Left me wondering at the end if this was a series, that they weren't telling you about until the very end.
Could have een a great book, but too many strings were left dangling. I would e glad to get more of her books, if I would be sure it had an authentic ending, where you aren't wondering what happened in the book that I might have missed. Will do another soon listen, just to figure it out.
