the story was very disjointed and was hard to follow. I was not able to finish listening to the book due to the foul language. Reader beware
Couldn't stop listening. Wonderfully weaves together stories of two young women in wartime London with the efforts of a daughter to understand a violent episode from her childhood.

I love the way the authors gives hints and tidbits but you will be surprised at the twists in this book! I LOVED this book!

I thought a book this long wouldn't keep my attention. Wow was I wrong! I sat in my car freezing to listen to just one more chapter.
This book had me looking for excuses to go in the file room at work so I could listen!! Another reviewer said to be patient in the beginning, and I'm glad I did, because it started off a little slow. Don't get discouraged!! This story is unforgettable! Highly, highly recommended!!
For the first 23 chapters I found myself frequently saying, "Get on with it!" At Chapter 24 the real story started to unfold & the characters finally became interesting. By the time she had me the book was wrapping up. It almost seemed like the writer relied on the switching back & forth between years & characters to create the tension that the plot was sorely lacking. I really loved The Forgotten Garden, but this book fell way short.
This book was a lot longer than it needed to be. At first I didn't think I was going to make it through to the end. In the end however, I was really absorbed in the book and couldn't wait to get to the end of the book to have the mystery revealed. Now that I am finished, I must admit that the way the author revealed the story was very well done.....but I still think the book didn't need to be so long!
Kate Morton did a wonderful job of taking The reader from current day back to 1941. Characters were well-developed the story was interesting in a way that only Kate seems to know how to do. I would highly recommend this book to anyone that likes historical novels.I have read everything Kate Morton is written notes on audible and can't recommend her books enough. Caroline Lee doesn't amazing job of narrating many voices with the distinct British accent for each so you're never confused with who is speaking
