I loved this story. I was not able to guess the ending. I really like how she told the story in different people's point of view. well written. I will be re listening to this book again.
The book was amazing! It kept you guessing... And you find yourself not knowing who the good guys are and who the bad guys are... The book is full of surprises !! I loved it ... It's a good book to take on vacation it's really long so I enjoyed at the beach throughout my stay .. I love Australian writers and narrators !!
This was my first book by Kate Morton and I'm sure I'll read more of her work. It was a long book but did not drag on like I would have thought. The alternating perspectives kept the book fresh and enjoyable. You truly felt like you knew each character by the end of this story. I enjoyed the mystery and twist ending. It was a great listen! Not to mention Caroline Lee is always wonderful!
The book started off rather slowly but grabbed at some point it grabbed my interests and I became involved and intrigued by the author.
Not at all like I thought.
I would recommend the book to anyone who likes love stories with a twist.
Kate Morton always seems to develop her characters well, adding details of encounters and interactions that paint a clearer picture of their personality and motivations which are essential to the complex stories she tells. It can seem like a slow beginning, but well worth the wait.
The ending was unexpected! I wanted to go back and reread the whole book after knowing the ending. It was a surprise that made so much sense to the story.
Again, the ending when "all was revealed".
It's a long book and it's worth my every second. Beautiful writing, vivid characters, captivating storyline. Narrator also does a wonderful job. All and all, this book will go on my "favorites" list. Highly recommended!
I love audio and ebooks but only give them a 5 if they hold my attention. An avereage story gets a 3 . Thrillers & Crime are my favorites.
Great story about a family's history filled with unexpected secrets. The eldest daughter witnesses a very disturbing event as a child; she revisits it many years later as her elderly mother is dying. The story is told from the mothers view point back in the 1940s and the daughter's research of the situation in modern times.
The characters are enjoyable, the story unfolds in many surprising directions, and its just plan entertaining. I often wanted to keep listening when I arrived at my destination.
I did guess the big surprise at the end but it was not disappointing. I will look for other books by this author.
Like being read to by a soothing master.
Gerald. He played a small, but very strong part.
I'm not sure why I chose this book, but I am so glad I did. Such a good story that sweeps you so far into it that it amazes you to learn that it was 19 hours long! I'm going to check out more of Kate Morton's books!
Absolutely. The story draws you into a different time and place and is quite intriguing. You grow to care about the characters - even root for them, as life gets complicated. I dare not say more for fear of giving anything away.
All the characters were well done. I think Doll/Dorothy was probably the most interesting. I liked Vivian and Jimmy's characters.
I usually listen as I'm going to sleep at night, so don't want a book to keep me up, but towards the end, I could not stop listening, I cared so much.
This was a truly great listen and I highly recommend.
