This is one of those stories on my rererereread/rerererererelisten list. A prefect best friend to lover, low angst, high love and heat factor. Couldn't recommend it highly enough. The narrator does a brilliant job on this one. Read with passion, fun, and you can feel the love between the two mains. Well well done.
Initially, the story was slow and it seemed to take a long time to get to the heart of it. Once it got going, though, the emotions really shined from the characters. I liked how Griff and Dante were polar opposites but ended up being complimentary to each other.
I consider it a well written story when the gender preference is secondary to the love each character has for the other. It's about love and support and willingness to sacrifice for the other.
This is not to say the sex scenes weren't steamy because they were!! I really liked how the author incorporated seriously steamy, hot with the emotional connection between Dante and Griff.
I liked the author's writing and hope more is to come. Just speed up a little on the unraveling of the story.
This is a perfectly nice book, reasonably well developed story and mostly likable characters. It is understandable how this book is very well liked. I think I had misplaced expectations for this book. I was expecting something hot and fun. Instead, the first 75% of the book was filled with the inner dialog and angst that comes with a GFY story (he could never like me in that way).
I couldn't take a break from listening, so fascinated by this wonderfully written story of personal acceptance of love and masculinity, good hearts within the structure of an urban community filled with expectations. Very sensitively handled. Dantes voice was horribly overdone, whiny, and I truly do not believe it reflected Suede's intent. Both heroes are immaculate in their seach3s... and their destinatiin. I will listen to it again, because I am so taken by the poetry of the story.
I've read Hot Head a few times now but I always look to old favorites when I'm having a rough time. I've been working way too much and too hard lately, so I decided to revisit Griff and Dante in all their hot firefighter glory. The story is still amazing and the sexy times still super hot. I will say that I wish the performance had been a bit better despite how awesome the narrator's voice is. He kept stumbling over words and it was bad enough that even *I* noticed. I'm Klutzy The Unobservant. Even with the narrator throwing me out of the story a few times, I still love this book.
Have you ever read a book that made you blush so hard, every person you pass has asked if you are okay? Well if you haven't this is going to be it! Seriously buy it. My first book by Damon Suede, and boy will I be back for the second book in the series. And can we just talk about the narrator Charlie David. I mean whew hot damn! I actually had to fan myself while reading this because I was blushing so hard. Just perfection!
Loved the two MCs and their relationship that shifts from being the kind of friends that is so close that you know every little thing the other is thinking (except from the i want you in an entirely different way thoughts) to a relationship where they are lovers. I like the fact that the story are set in a sort of crappy every day poor/less fortunate part of NY and they find happiness despite all the hardship that goes with that. And the narrator serously gets into the story - The noises he makes while narrating the sexual part of the story kind of makes you wonder if he has another job making sound tapes for porn, jesus... It is not a bad thing, just not common for the narrator to add so much steam to the telling and he does a very good job in general. But it would be a very different experience reading the book instead!
The straight guys discovering the wonderful of being gay can be tedious to those of us who knew wonderful from birth (it's never too late), but this has elements of possessiveness macho crap that I absolutely adore, and the physical and emotional interactions of family and the Hot Heads themselves were done well.
There were a couple of moments that brought tears to my eyes...the way the scene of violence was handled and how the author played it into the story of discovering the wonderful of our community as well as the heartache of our societies blatant violence toward gay folk. It took me by surprise. Good job on that one Damon.
Glad I listened...it was easy for me to get wrapped up into these Hot Heads...
the realization that friends grew to love one another in multiple ways.
The love of friendship strengthens to the love of soul mates.
yes. He really made the story " sing" . Its no surprise he's a great actor. his characterizations were fantastic.
convincing fear of losing a strong friendship by asking for more. I did get a chuckle when I realized the matriarch anastagio was in on it.
huge guys with huge balls [ ya literally emphasized] after the chuckle over "size" I did enjoy the story overall.
